Just about to start week 4 of SR and it has been a very up and down process!!!  After reading the board here and watching Martin’s video’s this is to be expected but it is still frustrating.  Sleep is an elusive friend.

After getting little or no sleep for three days straight last week, I know have slept through my whole sleep window of 11:30-5pm without needing to get up and do SC.   This is great progress!!  However, I am waking up 5-6 times each night, every hour or so, and then taking 5-10 minutes to fall back asleep.  I do look at the clock on my i-Phone each time I wake, just to make sure I actually slept because sometimes I cannot immediately tell.  When I see the time, it gives me great comfort to know I actually slept and then I fall back asleep for another hour.

Is this light sleep pattern a sign of getting better and should  it consolidate itself over time as I continue to gain sleep confidence?

Hi Ron. Good to see you are making progress. I am into week 5 of SR and really starting to see the benefits. Like last night I had 7 hours of sleep and was in bed for 7.25 hours. In the last 9 nights I have only had one bad night where I could not get to sleep for a while, but even then I got 6 hours sleep (by breaking the rule about sleeping in only on that night). I am confident that I am really improving now (although still fully expect some future relapses, which won’t disrupt me). I have graphed my sleep hours over the last 3 months and I wish I could share this, as the graph clearly shows how the SR works over time, with much more consistent sleep. Stick with it.

It sounds as though you are doing well, Ron. It’s important to bear in mind that waking during the night is completely normal — as long as you find it easy to fall back to sleep, then nothing is wrong or unusual.
