What follows is my favorite quote about the state of insomnia, or as I like to refer to them/us: The Sleep Depraved. This quote is framed, and wherever I happen to drop for the night, I make sure it's right next to me. Its a jolt of self-esteem and comfort for The Sleep Deprived (Depraved. Enjoy:

“It's at night, when perhaps we should be dreaming, that the mind is most clear, that we are most able to hold all our life in the palm of our skull. I don't know if anyone has ever pointed out that great attraction of insomnia before, but it is so; the night seems to release a little more of our vast backward inheritance of instincts and feelings; as with the dawn, a little honey is allowed to ooze between the lips of the sandwich, a little of the stuff of dreams to drip into the waking mind.

I wish I believed, as J. B. Priestley did, that consciousness continues after disembodiment or death, not forever, but for a long while. Three score years and ten is such a stingy ration of time, when there is so much time around. Perhaps that's why some of us are insomniacs; night is so precious that it would be pusillanimous to sleep all through it! A “bad night” is not always a bad thing.” ~Brian W. Aldiss

That's a great quote, M, thanks for sharing it.

I'm big on quotes too, though mine tend to be from cinema, moreso than literature, just because I watch more movies than I read books. (I'm a lot more cine-literate, than book-literate.)

I'll have to see what good quotes I can contribute as well.

Oh, hey! Thanks for the comp 😉 Another quote lover: Little daggers of insight. I also am a cinophile and have been watching more flicks than reading. I'm reading, but its for school and court documents. Dry fare. I watch a lot of movies when I can't sleep. I'd love to know what type of film genre's you enjoy and what some of your favorite movies are. A gargantuan task for a movie buff: Where to begin? Which one's? How many? (Whatta stress factory I am today, sorry 😉 I'll go first!

It'd be easier to tell you what I 'don't' prefer, LOL: No date fliks, unless the characters are quirky, deeply flawed & emotional wrecks; No teenage vampire fliks. I like my vamps straight up: Blade, Nosferatu (Murrow and Herzog), Copalla's Dracula, The Hunger; Yes to horror, but I am a dilettante. HaI Enjoy John Carpenter, Rob Zombie, Peter Lorre,' Todd Brownings “Freaks,” Guillermo del Torro (The Devil's Back Bone, Blade II), The Grudge 1&2 (by Japanese “Juon” series by Tak Shimuko, sp?), The Changling with George C. Scott; No sappy romances; No to porn unless we're talking about the Marquis de Sade.

Some of my favorite films are: Titus Andronicus, (Shakesphere's 1st play. No scata!), which upon viewing seems like Quentin Tarantino directed the version I have, starring Anthony Hopkins. Awesome film; Downfall, Fitzcaroldo, Wings of Desire, Nosteratu and anything else by Werner Herzog w/ Klaus Kinski or Bruno Ganz in it; The Station Agent; Picnic at Hanging Rock; The Last Wave; Be Kind, Rewind; anything with Mos Def in it; anything with Montgomery Cliff in it; Romeo & Juliet, The Action Flik; Man on Fire; M; Days of Heaven; Badlands; Suspect Zero; The Flock; anything with Brando; The Dark Knight; Mystery Men; The Haunting; The Innocents; documentaries; Blade Runner; Santre Sangre; Man Facing Southeast; Blood Simple; Hellboy 1 and 2; Midnight Cowboy; Reservoir Dogs; Cat 22; The Big Lewbowski. I'll stop there. There's hundreds more! Your turn! 😆
