Are short naps during the night considered adequate sleep? Last night’s time asleep looks good, but it felt like I slept in short naps. I never slept more than 2 hours without waking up. On the plus side I only got out of bed once. The other times it seems like I went back to sleep fairly quickly. Clearly my arousal system was working. I’m beginning to think, I should make 10:30pm a better bedtime for me and intentionally not allowing myself to drift into sleep around 9pm while reading or watching tv. By the way, last night, I did not allow myself to drift off to sleep before going to bed. What do others do about nodding off early?

When it comes to sleep, there are no rules. Your body will sleep when it gets sleepy. It also comes easier when you don’t keep asking yourself, should I do this or that? Or should I sleep X hours with no waking up or whatever. Because these things are mentally stimulating and is enough to keep you awake! But at the end of the day, it really doesn’t matter and your body will get the minimum sleep it needs regardless of what you think anyway.

The body will always generate “adequate” sleep 😉

What’s probably most important with a sleep window is going to bed when you feel ready to go to bed (not because you’re chasing after sleep) and keeping a relatively consistent out of bed time in the morning.

If you start putting a lot of focus on the sleep window, it has the potential to be another “thing” that can end up creating more of a struggle!
