      Hi, everyone,

I am happy to be included in your group. The topic of insomnia is of all consuming interest to me since it impacts my mood and feeling of general well being when I did not get enough sleep. My husband sleeps very well except for the fact of waking up in the night sometimes but he definitely does not stay awake worrying. He does not understand the problems of anyone who doesn't just fall rapidly to sleep.

I am from Idaho although I have lived a variety of places including Oklahoma, Missouri, California, England and Virginia….most of these locations have to do with my husband's job. I was born in Oklahoma and we retired in Idaho. We have six children and 13 grandchildren.

I am looking forward to hearing any suggestions any of you have or just your own personal story.

      Thanks,

      Margaret

Hey there, Margaret, nice to see you here.

So where in England have you lived? I lived in Oklahoma myself, when I was much younger. Didn't like it at all. Much prefer being back home in England. *waves*

            Hi Margaret

Welcome to the site. I hope the info and companionship help you. Isn't there a saying 'misery enjoys company'? and insomnia certainly is a misery! 😉

I have one of those husbands, too. Hate his easy-to-sleep guts. Yes, we DO understand your experience here.

                Hi, Caers,

I lived in Loughborough. My husband did research. It was an exchange program. The Brit went to live in California that same year. We did lots of sightseeing.

I did not have so much trouble sleeping back then because I took decongestants which made me sleepy. My doctor does not recommend taking them just to sleep so now I have the insommnia. No allergies in Idaho like I had in California and England.

Does anyone else find that decongestants make them sleepy? Do you worry about dependance?

                Margaret

I don't take decongestants. I only have hayfever a few weeks out of the year so I'm not going to take pills just for that, and I can't take any nasal sprays because they give me migraines.

As for dependence, I don't generally worry about that. I take a lot of pain meds, which I will be on for life, so dependence on medications is a way of life for me, that requires moderation, but it's also an inevitability. I can't take sleep meds either, because they work opposite for me. If I found something that worked I wouldn't really worry about the dependence or addiction factor. Sometimes that's just the way it goes.
