      Hi all,

My name is Jackie and I reside in Silver Spring, MD, 2 miles outside of DC, with my husband and three boys, aged 9, 7 and almost 2 year old. I've had bouts of insomnia here and there, but it has escalated in the recent year. I am struggling to fall asleep and stay asleep. I thought it may be due to some mid-life changes for women and got my hormone levels checked out but it all seems fine in that department. I've tried all natural remedies, i.e. cannabis, elderberry. and etc. They seem to work for a few weeks, then my body gets used to it and it stops working. Now I just have real anxiety about going to bed. I do think I am getting more sleep than I realize but even when I am dreaming and sleeping, I feel awake and I tell myself that I need to fall asleep. I am desperate to get some sleep where my mind is just out and I am no longer aware of any thoughts. I've recently signed up for the advance training and hopeful that CBT will work.

        Hi Jackie

I think I'm going through quite a similar experience to you, and I'm quite sure there are hormone changes in the mix with me, but my GP says (and others have confirmed this), that for a quite a while, the hormone levels will be so all over the place that tests are not reliable.

I've been doing the sleep scheduling for 3 weeks now, and while I don't think I sleep significantly more than before (about 5 hours in my case), it is more reliable and regular, and has really decreased the anxiety about not sleeping. Plus I'm using some of the extra time in the day for myself, reading, looking up new recipes etc. So I think Martin's sleep training will really help you!

I feel so similar too!! I dread night time now and hate the loneliness. I’m probably getting about 3-4 hours a night. No problem going to sleep but when I wake o can rarely go back to sleep. I work full time and need to be more alert. It’s making me feel desperate!! I tried low dose amytriptaline which did the trick for many months but a recent Escalade in my health anxiety has made it stop working. I’m trying Panadol night which has antihistamine that can work but I can’t take that every night. Really not sure what to do for the best 😫
