Hello fellow insomniacs! It helps to say that doesn't it? To know you're not entiirely alone in this big world when it's sleeping.

I am computer illiterate and it's taken me, how long Martin, to get into this site? LOL.

Am wanting to look up thios cranial electrotherapy stimulation by Gagatso but don't know how to follow a thread……Seriously i am techno challenged. I will have a 'look around' and see if i can figure it out.

Question? What do you guys say to people if you are in circumstances when you are not functioning and stressed to the hilt because of untold sleepless nights? Sometimes i say i have 'health issues', but then people get curious, but saying 'i've not slept' doesn't cut it. It seems that everyone has their version of insomnia, but in reality it is extremely rare to be this debilitated by it. I literally cannot work or do anything that involves a commitment. Before this damn disease took hold of me i was a very hard working hard playing girl who was so involved in life and friends and anybody who needed me. No more. What's a succinct thing to say that will keep people off my case without sounding like a drama Queen? This is such an isolating thing. Luckily i have a couple of friends that take my word for it and understand. Thanks folk. Happy Halloween!

Hi Kate, thanks for saying hello!

It looks as though you figured out how to get to the CES discussion – if not, here's a direct link:

I think your question is one of the biggest issues insomnia sufferers face – simply because the term 'insomnia' is overused, so it isn't taken as seriously as it should be.

Healthy sleepers have one bad night of sleep, and blame 'insomnia'. The fact is, most people don't understand how debilitating long term sleep deprivation can be – apart from members of this website, that is.

I hope you'll keep in touch and get involved in the forums. You'll find that the more you put in, the more you'll get out.

Thank you Martin for inviting me into the Forum (many times) after my intial inability to access it. I really am so grateful to you and always look frwd to learning more. Can you give me a suggestion as to what to label myself as so to speak? As I explained in my intro I don't know how to divert attention away from insomnia being my disability, but i don't want to lie either. I could stretch the truth at a pinch! Hope your good weather continues. We are still having some sunny days in BC too, yea. I will most certainly contribute what i can to the Forum.

          Cheers Kate

Well the rains have finally arrived, so it'll probably be like this until around June time!

I always try to get people who struggle with sleep to avoid calling themselves insomniacs – when you call yourself an insomniac, it kind of becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

At the same time, it's difficult to describe insomnia to others without using the word. That being said, even then it is misunderstood.

If you have to label yourself, I would suggest you refer to yourself as a healthy, happy individual who sometimes gets less sleep than she'd prefer!

Welcome… sometimes it is health issues that cause insomnia… I just learned that.
