      Hello Everyone,

My name is Dave Olsen and I have had some insomnia issues for 6 or more months. It all started with my sinus surgery and the physicians prescibed me to much ativan, which my body grown addicted to. Well, I went to two detox centers to get detoxed, but all these meds they gave me (e.g. trazadone, ambien, etc) worked for a while, but then they didn't work and the affer affects were awful. I finally got off all the sleep and anxiety meds and I'm getting 5 or more houirs of sleep most nights. Sometimes 4 hours and then I go back to bed and get another couple hours. It certainly beats not getting any sleep at all. I'm using I-rest, which is a CD one listens to to relax oneself and had some i-rest sessions with a specialist. It helps calm one down.

The only thing I'm working on is getting 7 or 8 hours of straight sleep, which someday I hope to see.

I'm also open to other suggestions to get a sound sleep through the night….that would be wonderful

Welcome to the forums, Dave. Your story about the sleeping pills is all too familiar. Glad to hear you managed to wean yourself off them – getting 5 or more hours of sleep each night is nothing to be sniffed at; you're close to getting your core sleep (which is 5 and a half hours) each night.

Remember not to put too much pressure on yourself to fall asleep or sleep for an arbitrary amount of time – quality is far more important than quantity.
