      A little about me, I’m 45 years old just retired professional bodybuilder now focusing on personal training and my health, I also have Leukemia and lupus so have to take a a lot of medication that I’m sure won’t be helping.
      For the last year I’ve resorted to a big cocktail for 2 x diazepam, 10mg melatonin and 50mg 5H-TP and this has worked until 5 weeks ago I had to stop the diazepam as I have poor kidney function and I haven’t slept once in 5 weeks, my new routine now is to turn the TV off one hour before bed and listen to a podcast whilst drinking a campanile and valerian root tea and trying not to stress too much about not sleeping which I learned from here and I do rest now although still not falling asleep

        It sounds as though things are difficult for you, El Toro — and, quite understandably, you’ve been putting a lot of effort into trying to make sleep happen.

        I wonder if turning the TV off for an hour before bed, listening to a podcast while drinking a camomile and valerian root tea, and trying not to stress about sleep might actually be making things more difficult?

        That all sounds like quite a lot of work — I wonder if you might be putting a lot of pressure on yourself to make sleep happen and, since sleep (and what goes on in your mind) can’t be controlled, perhaps you might be setting yourself up for some struggle?
