My insomnia started rather abruptly two years ago. At first I could manage four to six hours of sleep but this gradually declined and over time I became more and more restless. These days there are nights I will be lucky to have an hour of sleep and there are other nights I don’t sleep at all. Yes, that’s right, not a wink of sleep all night. I sometimes wonder if sleep is after all a superfluity and that man is evolving in some quaint way to be a sleepless animal! At other times I think I am going crazy.

You’re not going crazy, Tomm — everyone in this forum can empathize with what you’re going through! What do you think is stopping you from sleeping? Do you feel any sleep-related worry or anxiety?

Sleep is necessary, yet it’s a natural biological function that we have little control over. Although we can suspend sleep, usually by activating our arousal system or ‘fight or flight’ response, we can’t hold it off indefinitely.
