I’ve been doing the free online course and it has helped great on some nights, but then I seem to slip up the next night after getting a great sleep. I seem to not go into a deep sleep now some nights, usually following a good sleep. Before this bout of insomnia I was a very deep sound sleeper. I must admit I do still think about sleep or not sleeping most of the day.

Sounds normal so far, what’s wrong? If you slept too well for a few nights, it’s natural your sleep drive is reduced so your sleep wouldn’t be as good, just common sense, isn’t it? It’s like your appetite for food becomes less or disappears after eating a full meal or overeating. If otherwise, you keep on feeling sleepy or hungry all the time even after eating and sleeping well, then something is really wrong with you. You could have some sort of underlying disease and you need to rush to see a doctor!

Hi Cas80, I am not sure if you are anxious about sleeping less hours some nights, or if you are not as rested some mornings.

If it is just about less hours, it’s just that we don’t need as much rest some nights. If it is about not being as rested, I don’t think we can expect to feel super-rested every morning, at least not after age 30 or so? And if it starts to happen fairly often, it could be that worrying about it is the problem.

Yeah, but how do you just not worry? And here is where CBT comes into play, when we acknowledge thoughts as just thoughts, not necessarily something we have to buy into. Noting that “I am having the thought that I will not get over this” is much different from “I will not get over this.”

I hope you feel rested more often.
