I have struggled with middle of the night waking for the better of 12 years. It started slowly, but now I have such anxiety surrounding the whole sleeping experience. I can go days on 4 hours of sleep until my body just begins to feel like it is falling apart. It seems like the more nights I go with 3-4 hours the more and more anxious I become. I believe this lack of sleep has been a contributor to depression and a lack of productivity for me. I have begun to have increasing anxiety that this lack of sleep will have serious health implications for me if I can not solve this problem. This is what has brought me to this page. Oh, and also I am 3/4 of the way to being post menopausal, so that just adds to the sleep difficulties for me. Any other menopausal woman here who have found relief with this program?

The struggle is real — your situation is difficult but not unique or unusual. You are not broken, it just sounds as though you might be a bit stuck!

It sounds as though you have learned from experience that trying to control sleep, trying to make sleep happen, trying to get rid of wakefulness, and trying to fight or avoid certain thoughts and feelings hasn’t led to a permanent improvement.

I wonder if this suggests that all of this stuff is out of your control and so all your attempts to control what cannot be controlled might be the source of a lot of struggle?
