Over the past 26 years, insomnia had completely destroyed my working life. I was always a high-flier, and worked with one of the largest firms in the City. I got several promotions and did very well during the first ten years despite the fact that I struggled with insomnia. However, when I started having kids the insomnia worsened. I was always exhausted and unable to concentrate during working hours. I felt as if I was starting to develop mental health problems – anxiety and depression. I consulted GPs. The typical response was to prescribe quite potent sleeping pills.
My insomnia problem had improved a bit but I became more reliant on the sleeping pills and after 6 months, these pills became useless to me. I could only sleep 2-3 hours every night and my working performance deteriorated a lot. I could easily get mad and always forgot the tasks assigned from my line manager.
Until one year ago, in one occasion, I came across music therapy. When I first listened to these soothing music, I fell asleep in 5 mins and only woke up the other morning. So amazing! These music could be searched in public media (such as Youtube) free of charge. During weekend, I used to listen to those relaxing music and my stress and anxiety will go away.
Now I can sleep well for around 7-8 hours every night without reliance on sleeping pills. I got promoted early this year. Music cured my insomnia and saved my career! Most importantly, music therapy is purely natural and has no side effect.
