Hi everyone. I’ve struggled with sleep most of my life, I had colic as a baby and wouldn’t sleep and I remember my parents finally sitting me in front of the tv all night at 5-6 years old because I wouldn’t sleep and I kept them awake all night.

Has anyone else had this type of lifelong insomnia with seemingly no preticipating event?

Hi @Bbe7 – I haven’t personally experienced that scenario myself but I can relate to having insomnia. What’s an average night of sleep like for you currently? What’s your biggest challenge with sleep? Do you find yourself worrying about the amount of sleep you might achieve on a nightly basis or how it might affect your work, health, social life, etc?

Thanks for your response. The past week my sleep has been really bad, takes me 5-6 hours in bed to fall asleep, and I get 3-5 hours of sleep. It’s not always this bad, but it’s not uncommon for me. My biggest challenge with sleep is probably worrying about not being able to sleep. I am bedridden due to chronic pain and so I’m always laying down and don’t get any exercise at all which I’m sure is part of why I don’t feel very tired at night. I also have a lot of rumination/anxiety that keeps me awake.

@Bbe7 – are you using a sleep window consistently? More importantly, are you getting out of bed at a consistent time every morning, including weekends? When anxious thoughts about your sleep arrives, how do you react to them? Do you take actions to try to avoid them?
