I have been on seroquel and klonopin for years, came off seroquel and insomnia came back bad. Ended up at the ER and put back on it. Then started to taper the klonopin. Anyway, with or without meds, my issue is that I go 3-6 days on 0 sleep. I end up at the ER a lot. When I feel ok I am able to run a lot and am very active. I sure have a lot of wakefulness and activity so I don’t know why I’m not getting sleepy or can sleep. I do have anxiety once one night goes by and no sleep. I get dizzy and can’t drive. It’s really ruining my life and my doc just put me on Restoril to try tonight. Without the other meds. My sleep window is 11-4 as I go based off my kids’ schedules and that’s my only option. But like I said, I have major problems getting sleepy at all in that window or anytime. I feel run down and exhausted but not sleepy. I want to try CBTI but don’t feel that it will help me if I can’t get sleepy after having so many wakeful hours. Docs are worried about me now and I may end up dead, said one doc, from not sleeping and from heart pounding and said that’s happening due to the burden the lack of sleep is causing on my organs. I’m scared, tired but not sleepy, and sick of this. During that sleep window, I am not sleepy so I don’t sleep but even when I’ve tried to lie there anyway, once in a while, I’ll fall asleep at 1am… most often I don’t ever fall asleep. I’m really scared.

Just wanted to tell you that I feel your pain. I was perfectly normal 2 months ago and now this nightmare is taking my life from me. I slept 8 hours 2 days ago, and yesterday again ZERO. I’m really scared! But there should be a solution, let’s find it.

The new med didn’t help. I’ve been up 5 days straight now and feel dizzy, shaking, heart pounding and totally sick and nauseaus.

I have almost the exact same symptoms and am prescribed the same drugs. the only thing I added was 5 mg melatonin and 400 mg magnesium before bed along with 500 depakote and 100 seroquel. take them all before bed and I sleep great.

“fromthesnow” just trust that your body will sleep and forget about it. do no let the worry compound into a vicious circle or worry. study the philosophy of flow. At worst you will crash and sleep. most crash on day 4 or 5.

Thank you Jonathan, actually I crashed last night and was able to sleep around 8 hours. But looks like I need to be terribly exhausted to be able to sleep now.
Tmd11 – Do you think your symptoms are from withdrawal or anxiety? Anyway I hope you are feeling better today and had some rest.

Are you tapering all this stuff under the guidance of doctors? If not you are are just asking for trouble. Both have insomnia as a withdraw effect.

Many people with chronic insomnia can struggle to detect sleepiness — either because of insufficient sleep drive or high levels of arousal.

Ultimately, if you implement a consistent and appropriate sleep window, you will sleep during that sleep window. Depending on how entrenched your insomnia is, and how intense your anxiety is, it can take quite some time before you notice sleep become more consistent — but it will become more consistent. Sleep drive always wins.
