Hi, I’ve been having insomnia for around 6 weeks now. I’ve started seeing lots of improvements in the last few days by accepting and making room for my feelings and thoughts around sleep. I have a much better understanding of why I have had such severe sleep disturbance and hyperarousal. My question is is it normal to still feel anxious throughout the day even after good night’s of sleep? I don’t feel as panicky as I originally did and each night I’ve been accepting that I cannot control my sleep. I go to bed with the intention of just having a rest. I’m just wondering how long until I will start to not think about it so much? Thank you in advance for any help or advice.

        Hi,
Could you please explain this comment “ accepting and making room for my feelings and thoughts around sleep” I see this a lot but it’s hard for me to understand what is meant by it? I would like to also make some room , just need to figure out how to do it lol.

        Thanks so much!

So I don’t do anything about any feelings that I have. I be kind to myself and don’t try to push the feelings away. Being completely honest with myself about how I feel. Also recognising that thoughts are not always to be trusted.
It’s quite difficult to come to terms with. I am currently having a bad night but I’m trying to accept that for what it is😢. Completely out of my control and because I’m feeling a little more anxious. I’ve been resting in bed for an hour. I’m going to watch some tv for a while. Figured I might aswell do something I enjoy. Hope this kind helps a little.

That makes more sense than what I was thinking, I always try block or push those thoughts away, which causes more anxiety, which leads to less sleep. I used to sleep so well but that has been a while, I hope that you are able to get some rest and keep seeing improvements!

            Merry Christmas

              Hi @Sha22

It’s perfectly normal to have anxious feelings throughout the day when you’re the path to recovery. I was once there and know what it’s like.

I think once you accept it’s normal to get anxious anywhere along the journey, then it just get less intense over time. You just had had a traumatic experience so of course that is going to stick around for a while.

Everyone gets bad nights once in a while. I really don’t know what else to say that doesn’t upset them except that to advise them to keep trying on other nights and not get overly stressed over it because that doesn’t help! I try to make people understand that they don’t only get to sleep for one time and it’s make it or break it. There are abundant opportunities to sleep and insomnia is really only transient and transitory, like everything else happening in your life. Good luck and merry xmas to you.
