      hi all,

This is my first post as a new member.

My issue is with late insomnia. I find i can get to sleep fine but come 4-5am, “Bing” the lights are on and i can’t return to sleep. Some nights is was as early as 2am with the same issue but thankfully it’s been a while since then.

I’m currently on day 8 of the two week trial program with just starting to apply SR and SC.

I’m hoping this forum with provide support plus give hope through the journeys that many of you have already taken.

      Regards,

      Adam

Hi Adam, welcome to the forum!

Great job staying consistent with implementing the cognitive and behavioral theory techniques and I’m confident you’ll find them beneficial if you remain committed. The timing of results from using the evidence-based techniques will vary from person-to-person – some experience positive results within a few days, and others, take a bit longer for improvements in their sleep. Like you, I applied these same techniques for my insomnia and began seeing positive results around day 14. I still experience an occasional sleep disruption but I’m now equipped with the knowledge to overcome that poor night’s sleep and you’ll be able to do the same.

          Thanks Scott,

Hearing from others who understand and have gone through this themselves helps. It’s only day 3 of applying the techniques so a fair while to go.

Do many others going through the program have late insomnia ? I’m fortunate I’m not having issues getting to sleep and i’m thankful i get almost a solid 5 hours without waking. When i do wake at 4:45 each morning I move to the sofa when i know its not a fleeting awakness. I stay until i feeling tired but on returning to bed i wake. I don’t think about anything, nor worry about sleeping. I understand that repatterning takes time but i don’t know if I’m missing something.

I’m sure my sleep will improve but i can see how many say it’s hard to implement.

Welcome to the forum, Adam! If you don’t identify yourself as someone who worries much about sleep, it might be worth exploring three potential avenues for reducing the amount of time spent awake at night.

First, I’d suggest making sure that you’re allotting an appropriate amount of time for sleep. If you’re allotting too much time for sleep, this will virtually guarantee time awake at night.

Second, if you wake during the night but it feels good to be in bed, it might be worth staying in bed since conditions are right for sleep (if being in bed doesn’t feel good, that’s a good cue for getting out of bed).

Third, when you wake try to avoid checking the time since that immediately increases arousal and if you believe you won’t fall back to sleep if you wake around 4:45 AM this can easily become a self-fulfilling prophecy!

            I hope this helps.
