Hi, I’m currently on another CBT-I course but came across this forum so thought I’d try (although i’m trying hard to limit the content I’m looking at each day and keep it limited to a short period). I found the Insomnia Coach videos very calming.
After not having any insomnia for a good couple of years (my very first episode was only about three or four years ago), I’ve had a relapse triggered by a few non-sleep nights while away at Christmas. It seemed to remind me of the very first time and by night 3 I was shaking and having very bad adrenaline rushes. I implemented CBT-i techniques when I got back, and I had a good results after three nights (3 nights of 4 hours which I was delighted with), but then at NY another sleepless night which seeemed to really get to me, and since then I’ve seen little improvement and am stuck at around 2 hours, only really sleeping from about 5am despite not doing anything different and actually feeling good yesterday after going back to work and feeling positive about it.
In the night I find doing menial stuff like emptying the dishwasher helpful, (headspace have a nice one in their sleep section on mindful housework) and I also do macrame and am trying paper marbling.
I’m finding it hard to stay positive – last time I did CBT-i I was on antidepressants and I think this helped with the baseline anxiety, but I came off these in the summer.
Does anyone feel like their insomnia is worse or takes longer to fix in the depths of winter?

In life there will always be people in worse situations than us and there will always be people in better situations than us.

I wonder if you might find it helpful to refocus a bit here. If you were getting the exact amount and type of sleep you want to be getting, what would you be doing differently with your life? What are you unable to do now, that you would be able to do if you were getting the sleep you want to get?

If you are ready to stop struggling with insomnia you can enroll in the online insomnia coaching course right now! If you would prefer ongoing phone or video coaching calls as part of a powerful three month program that will help you reclaim your life from insomnia, consider applying for the Insomnia Mastery program.
