Hi. 41 year old male. Have been dealing with this for the past 2 months. Think it has develped to a phobia for not being able to sleep. It’s definitely anxiety related. Keep falling to sleep but wake up immediately with a twitch. Before these nights i ofte feel anxiety in the day time too. Some days in between with insomnia (and anxiety)
July 21, 2018 at 11:48 am #22767Yep, this could be me writing this post. The only difference is mine has been going on for a little over 3 months, and at this point, I’m just sick of it so the anxiety is dissipating a bit. Now I’m just frustrated. The less focus I put on it, the better I am, but it’s hard to do sometimes. I have found a med that works pretty well, but I refuse to use it more than 2 times a week.
July 23, 2018 at 8:22 pm #22777Welcome to the forum, Rag. Insomnia is normally triggered by an event or period of stress but continues after the initial cause has passed. That’s because when our sleep gets disrupted, it is very easy to begin paying too much attention to sleep and to worry about sleep — and this makes sleep more difficult. When our sleep doesn’t recover, we become even more worried about sleep, and this makes sleep increasingly difficult.
The good news is this: the quicker you address this, the quicker (and easier it will be) to resolve your sleep issues. If you do not take action, the thoughts and behaviors that are creating your insomnia will become more firmly entrenched, and harder to resolve. Have you looked into cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia, or tried some of the techniques used in CBT-I?

July 30, 2018 at 2:28 pm #228877 day update. Have been sleeping completely normal 8-9 hours a night during the week without anxiety feeling during daytime also. Last night though, went to bed as usual but woke up some seconds after falling into sleep not really sleeping nor being awake and had that panicky feeling of anxiety appear instantly where the minds tell me that I will not be able to sleep to night and heart racing. I did not sleep the night.
On the positive side, i did not panic but kept calm and did not feel it was the end of the world. This is a change. The day after, today, I still got this anxiety feeling but not as severe as I experience it before. I try to keep attention on it, as to what it is: it is just a feeling and it will pass. There is nothing dangerous about it.

July 30, 2018 at 8:35 pm #22894Occassional setbacks are completely normal — the key is to try not to worry about them! Even the best sleepers have a bad night of sleep every now and again. Keep up the great attitude!

August 5, 2018 at 3:37 am #22939I’m a 57 male. I worked with mentally challenged individuals for 29 years. I was perfectly healthy then I retired, moved to another city, got married, had a part-time job and then a full-time job. I got injured lifting a patient at a living facility and had to go through rehabilitation and woke up one morning and had no energy at all. I was diagnosed with adrenal fatigue, hashimoto’s, depression, and leaky gut.
The extreme fatigue and insomnia are the most difficult symptoms.
I would greatly appreciate any suggestions, recommendations, and advice to beat hashimoto’s, and insomnia.
Thanks Guy
August 7, 2018 at 6:38 pm #22957Hello Guy. I can’t offer medical advice since I am not a doctor. Have you discussed your sleep issues with your doctor? They may be a side-effect of the conditions you have been diagnosed with or any medication you are taking.
