I never dealt with insomnia before. This is all very new to me. I used to sleep so great, occasionally wake up throughout the night but never nights of 3 hours of sleep or having anxiety about going to sleep.

My biggest sleep challenge is both falling asleep and then staying asleep. Some night I don’t fall asleep until hours after I try to sleep.

My cause for this was ongoing stress and then was triggered by my husband having a night terror which awoke me with such a panic. Since then I haven’t slept well.

I am trying to learn what the best practices to help me sleep are, still. But meditation has helped. Getting out of bed when you aren’t tired is the golden rule even if you think just laying there will cause
You to get sleepy if you are comfortable.

I found Insomnia Coach when searching a Podcast.

My sleep related worries and concerns are that this is permanent, I will never be able to sleep well again and thinking of going to bed give me anxiety due to so many poor sleep nights

It’s not too surprising that you are struggling with sleep even after the initial triggers aren’t an issue because insomnia is perpetuated by our reaction to the initial sleep disruption — we, quite naturally, start to think (and worry) more about sleep and implement behaviors such as spending more time in bed and modifying our days to try to improve our sleep. Unfortunately, all these thoughts and behaviors actually make it harder for our sleep to recover.

I would suggest starting with sleep restriction by creating an appropriate sleep window since this will help build sleep drive, reduce the amount of time you spend awake at night, and bring a bit more consistency and predictability to your sleep.

This may be all that’s needed to help get your sleep back on track.
