My insomnia has been getting worse. I’ve struggled with it for 15 years. I’ve been on sleeping meds since then. I’m currently getting 5-6hours of sleep a night (on a good night) while on 200mg of trazadone and a whole bottle of NeuroSleep. I’ve been lunesta, ambien, tranqs, seroquel and a whole bunch of other sedatives. I get “night-munches” from them.

I have trouble falling asleep and if I wake up at any point during the night I will not be able to go back to sleep. My brain feels dead most of the time, my energy is so low some days it feels like it takes so much effort to just to get up, which has made my physical health go to hell. I started having seizures in my sleep couple of years ago, but I am now on medications to help with that. I have depression and anxiety directly related to my insomnia. Life is getting too hard to manage without being able to sleep properly.

I have good sleep hygiene, I don’t look at screens before bed, use lavender as my “aromatherapy” sleep trigger. I keep my bedroom cool, have a good mattress/pillows and a blackout sleep mask. I try to go to bed at the same time every day….which doesn’t work that well…I don’t have caffeine after 9am. I wish I could just….go to sleep.

Welcome to the forum, NoahDoor. I am sorry to hear that you have been struggling with sleep for such a long period of time.

Why do you think you have trouble falling asleep and falling back to sleep at night?

You mentioned that you are on medication for nighttime seizures — do you feel comfortable sharing your diagnosis? I am curious to know what was determined to be causing these seizures since this is not something associated with insomnia.

It sounds as though you have good sleep hygiene — but sleep hygiene doesn’t really help when it comes to tackling chronic insomnia. Have you talked to your doctor about (or tried) CBT for insomnia?

If you are ready to stop struggling with insomnia you can enroll in the online insomnia coaching course right now! If you would prefer ongoing phone or video coaching calls as part of a powerful three month program that will help you reclaim your life from insomnia, consider applying for the Insomnia Mastery program.
