          Hi there!
          What do you mean sleep naturally? Are you currently taking medications to sleep? By definition, every healthy person is a natural sleeper with the exception of extremely rare familial insomnia cases. The difference between all sleepers is just whether they are having normal or disrupted sleep.

              I developed anxiety for the first time in my life just before falling asleep. As soon as I start to drift off, anxiety sets in and I don’t know what to do about it. Any tips?

                Forgot to add that I had used edibles for a while as a band aid but they didn’t work for long. I don’t want to rely on anything.

                  @Heykey,

                  What type of thoughts are you having at bedtime that’s causing you anxiety? I began to see real progress in my sleep when I approached my thoughts and anxiety differently. For the longest time, I was consumed by my thoughts about sleep and every doomsday idea came to mind so I tried to suppress my thoughts. Instead, I read a book that suggested I view thoughts as what they are – just thoughts! I began to have this attitude of, “so what – what’s the worst thing that can happen?” – when a negative thought would try to rear it’s head at bedtime and it became a pressure release valve for my anxiety towards sleep. Do you think that mentality could be beneficial for you?

                  Hope that helps,
                  Scott J

                    Sorry for the late response Scottctj. I have been reframing my thoughts just as you described this last week and it is starting to make a difference. I am estimating that I am getting about 5-6 hours a night overall. What book did you read?

                      @Heykey,

                      Outstanding! The actions you’re taking are definitely making a difference for you. One of the books I found beneficial, specifically about how to manage thoughts, was The Sleep Book by Dr. Guy Meadows. He does focus on ACT techniques but the key takeaway for me was the information he provided on accepting your thoughts as just what they are – thoughts. Since you’re experiencing some success in your sleep now, I’d encourage you to stay the course with these evidence-based techniques, even if you have a rough patch of sleep.

                      Hope that helps,
