Hello I am a 22 year old man. Ever since 6th grade i have had a hard time falling asleep. I usually go to bed around 4 or 5am. And I wake up anywhere between 11am and 12 PM. When i was in school i would wake up at like 6:30am so I would only get a few hours of sleep then I would come home and crash on the couch. Anyways I’m trying to get to bed earlyer. My counselor said that I should just start trying to go to bed at 1am. That is very hard for me. Part of the problem is that I tend to loose track of time reading on my phone. So i have been trying to cut back on that. But even If i turn my phone off I still have trouble falling asleep and just lay in my bed for a few hours until I finally fall asleep! I have found a few things that sometimes help like listening to binurial beats, I also take clonazepam around 8pm that my  Psychiatrist prescribed me, I also find that certain cannabis strains help a bit! I’m just curious if you guys have any more tips? I dont expect this to be easy since it has been a habit for so long! Im not sure if this is Insomnia or just years of going to bed to late and my schedual is just all jacked up!

      Thanks!

Welcome to the forum! If you follow a sleep schedule of bed at 4:00 AM or 5:00 AM and get out of bed between 11:00 AM and 12:00 PM, do you have any issues with sleep?

If not, you may be experiencing delayed sleep phase syndrome — this is a circadian rhythm issue rather than insomnia. Someone who specializes in circadian rhythm disorders may be able to help you adapt your sleep schedule to more socially acceptable hours.

        I hope this helps.
