So it started with me losing a nights sleep after an argument with my husband, I never thought much of it as I can go a night without sleep if stressed.. BUT then I went another night without sleep – I’d never gone 2 nights without sleep before & me & my husband were fine by this point. 3rd say still wide awake; google – rest is history. I became terrified on Fatal insomnia, will I ever sleep again, I actually have a blood clotting disorder which we’re trying to get under control which affects my balance & the lack of sleep magnifies it… so as you can imagine sleep had become difficult.
This has gone on for a month. Had 0 sleep Thursday night, then slept well Friday night about 9 hours, Saturday still shattered and on the night got a few hours, last night 2 hours sleep 9am – 11am (luckily I work afternoons from home). I’m scared, it’s making my underlying health condition flare, I’m scared of it making me really ill, scared all day of not sleeping on the night & ruining the next day, think my partner is fed up of my constant anxiety, scared of this going on forever or until it kills me. Ugh it’s ruining my life. So glad to have come across Martin Reeds videos on YouTube. Really hope they will help. Anyone else go days with 0 sleep? X

Well, we know for a fact that you can sleep and that your sleep drive system is working perfectly — once you’ve been awake for long enough, sleep is happening (no matter how worried, scared, or anxious you might feel).

If we can remove ourselves from the process of sleep — if we can abandon all effort to sleep, stop trying to make sleep happen, move away from trying to avoid nighttime wakefulness, and withdraw from the battle we might engage in to fight/avoid all the difficult thoughts that like to come along for the ride, we might need to spend less time awake before sleep happens (as it always does)!
