Hello, I’ve had insomnia on and off for the past few years, but lately it seems to be getting worse.  I have no idea why.  Getting older ?? Maybe.  I am an active, fit 74 yr old female.  Am doing yoga and have done meditation.  Walk every day, exercise, etc.  I know what NOT to do before bed time.  I get up around the same time each day, no sleeping in.  Once in bed and I feel physically tired, thinking I’m ready for a good night’s sleep, well, don’t I wish.  Have tried many different things, but just can’t turn off my brain.  Anyone out there experiencing same or similar issues ?

Hello Susanne. You mention that your insomnia has been getting worse lately. Has anything happened lately to coincide with the worsening of your sleep symptoms?

You’re probably aware of this, but for anyone else reading it’s important to note that there is a difference between feeling physically tired/fatigued and being sleepy — so make sure that when you go to bed you are sleepy (itchy eyes, struggling to keep eyes open, yawning) rather than just fatigued (feeling generally worn out).
