I have had a significant improvement in my sleep after 9 months of sleep problems. After using all the tools and techniques Martin showed me I have now paired a lot of them back and feel I am starting to regain a natural sleep rhythm. Things I have kept are not checking the clock after around 9 at night and only going to bed when I feel sleepy. I still have bad nights from time to time but my anxiety about it is no where near where it was. Less anxiety seems to be leading to more sleep which then in turn leads to less anxiety.

It sounds as though you are now taking a far more natural and effortless approach to sleep, which also creates better conditions for sleep!

As you shared, you will still have difficult nights from time to time — they come with being a human being! — but they now have far less power and influence over your life.

Similarly, as you struggle less with anxiety it becomes less powerful and less influential when it shows up (which it will always do from time to time since anxiety is a natural and normal human emotion!).

Thanks for sharing and I wish you all the best for the future!

I have been doing very well the past 3 months! This course has helped me in a big way in that I worry less at night if I do happen to wake up and am able to remain calm and eventually get back to sleep. If I don’t, then I don’t panic and carry on with my day as planned. As a result I have been sleeping much better and have not touched a sleeping aid since before this course.

I am six weeks in and felt like I was cruising. Really started to see some progress. Then I went through the final sessions and the first night I felt sleepy and tried to go to bed at 930 and it didn’t take. Struggled that night. Was kicking myself for trying to go to bed so early. The next day I flew home and travel days can be more difficult and I struggled to fall asleep again. That kicked off a week of on and off difficult nights. I think finishing the final course work put me in a mindset of “Good, that’s over. I’m done with sleep problems.” Last night was another travel day and I just couldn’t fall asleep so naturally, let a grown adult, I threw a tantrum. Saw this post and thought I could some encouragement from you guys.

Ups and downs are all part of the process, @JackHawkins! Just as we all have difficult days from time to time, we all have difficult nights from time to time — and, it’s impossible to live a rich and meaningful life without pain and difficulty.

What matters is how you respond during these times of difficulty. When things don’t go to plan. When things aren’t going as well as you want them to.

Do you choose to respond in ways that get you tangled up in a struggle and pull you away from the life you want to live? Or, do you respond in a way that helps you build skill in experiencing all this difficult stuff while continuing to move toward the life you want to live?

Luckily, the choice is always yours!
