      Hey everybody
My name is Sophie and I’m here because I’m experiencing postpartum insomnia since the birth of my baby who is now 7 months old and having great nights of sleep. I started taking medication when he was 4 months to try and help me to sleep but now it is not working anymore and I’ve tried all the sleep hygiene tips without success. My problem is I have trouble falling asleep – sometimes it can take 3-4 h to get to sleep, and often I wake up in the middle of the night without being able to fall back asleep. I’m constantly worried I won’t have enough energy to take care of my baby during the day if I don’t sleep which increases my anxiety about needing to fall asleep. Hoping to tackle this through this program. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum, Sophie — and congratulations on the little one!

It’s not too surprising that you haven’t found medication or sleep hygiene to be helpful long-term solutions since neither really tackle the problem of insomnia — the struggle we engage in to get rid of wakefulness (and the difficult thoughts and feelings that often come along for the ride) that often end up supplying insomnia with the oxygen it needs to survive.
