    Half asleep half awake

I have a hyper arousal always sleeping with one eye open in fear of danger. I hear all the sounds, I even hear myself snore. Half of my brian is awake and the other half is asleep. When I feel myself losing consciousness into REM state, I panic and my heart starts racing because I’m so afraid of going under. This happens several times a night until finally sometimes I dream. I’m seeing a therapist next week to address this. I’ve quit using Seroquel for sleep after having been taking it for 3 year’s, the night I stopped I did not sleep for 72 hrs. The next 3 weeks I slept just one hour every 48 hrs. I have aged. My body is now forcing me to sleep as soon as I close my eyes, I start hypnotic jerks and snoring. REM sleep is still difficult due to the anxiety it causes when I begin to feel it coming on. I will start CBTI once the withdraw symptoms are done. I am on my 4th week and I have heard it lasts up to 6 weeks. Thank you for your help.

It sounds like you are on a very challenging journey — but it sounds as though you are taking constructive steps to improve your sleep for the long term by moving away from medication and working with a therapist.
