I hope the “General Conversation” section is the right place to put this, I wasn't entirely sure.
But I thought it might be fun, esp. since so many of us write, like writers, read, watch movies, etc. to have a place, that besides our posting “signautres” we could both share and comment on quotes of all kinds. Thought it might be fun and open up all kinds of silly & serious & everything in between chatter. They don't have to be about anything particular, just share the ones you want to discuss, or those that you find most interesting. I'm going to start things off from something, that while it may not be the best quote in the world, was just uttered to me by the characters of the TV show I was re-watching on my iPod.
“There's something I have to talk about…there's something you deserve to know…Every living thing, dies. (pause) As a scientist, that's one of the hardest things to accept. Hm-m-m-that-that we try to understand the mechanisms of life, but inevitably we can't defeat death. No matter how much we may want to.”
Dr. Walter Bishop (John Noble)
FRINGE
“The Man From the Other Side”
episode written by:
Josh Singer & Ethan Gross
*****
Just to clarify, this wasn't as a emo quote, the part I was interested was in was the approach of “death” as a scientific challenge to solve.

April 30, 2010 at 2:49 pm #10884My favorite quotes:
Where hope grows, miracles blossom. ~Can't remember who said that.
Without struggle there can be no progress. ~ Thomas Jefferson
The nose of a mob is its imagination; by this, at any time, it can be led. ~Edgar Allen Poe
April 30, 2010 at 8:23 pm #10885My favourite quote:
Quote:Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the moments that take our breath away-Anon
It really hits home for me, as I have a bit of an adventurous streak in me and love travelling, exploring new places and meeting new people. We worry too much about living long enough – instead we should focus on enjoying and making the most of whatever time we have.

May 1, 2010 at 9:32 am #10886This is mine from my Face Book page…
“I’d rather be a could-be if I cannot be an are; because a could-be is a maybe who is reaching for a star. I’d rather be a has-been than a might-have-been, by far; for a might have-been has never been, but a has was once an are.”
May 1, 2010 at 8:37 pm #10887I saw this one today on the Criminal Minds twitter page & I loved it. For some reason it made me happy:
“Lie to me once…shame on you. Lie to me twice…shame on me. Lie to me a 3rd time & I will make you sorry you were born. That's a promise.”
Other quotes I simply adore:
“When life hands you lemons, sell them for cash.”
“Well-behaved women rarely make history.” -Marilyn Monroe 😉
“2 AM and I'm still awake, writing a song
If I get it all down on paper, it's no longer inside of me,
Threatening the life it belongs to
And I feel like I'm naked in front of the crowd
Cause these words are my diary, screaming out loud
And I know that you'll use them, however you want to”
-Anna Nalick “Breathe”
I can't think of anymore right of head at the moment, but when I do I'll post them! 🙂
May 2, 2010 at 5:45 pm #10888Some famous Churchill and Lady Astor quotes…..they were famous for these repartees….
Lady Nancy Astor (to Churchill): “Sir, you’re drunk!”
Churchill: “Yes, Madam, I am. But in the morning, I will be sober and you will still be ugly.”
Lady Astor: “If you were my husband, I’d put arsenic in your coffee.”
Churchill: “Madam, if I were your husband, I’d drink it!”
🙂 🙂 🙂
May 2, 2010 at 9:21 pm #10889Problems are here because we let them. We all need to make a choice between letting go and holding on.
There's no such thing in the world as true soulmates. Most of what you feel is actually a lie.
What you think you want is only the standard that the rest of the world has.
The true test of a man isn't how he treats loved ones, it's how he treats those who make him suffer.
Were all liars, and when you break it down there is no perfect person for each of us, there is only people and what we make of them.
What we do does not define us, it is how we do it, and how we use the time we have left…and live.
^^ By me.

“People often ask me where I stand politically. It's not that I disagree with Bush's economic policy or his foreign policy, it's that I believe he was a child of Satan sent here to destroy the planet Earth. Little to the left.”
– Bill Hicks
May 10, 2010 at 11:36 pm #10891I like so many quotes…but my current fave is as follows:

May 13, 2010 at 3:08 pm #10895Sorry I was AWOL on the one topic I actually started. It's great seeing all these quotes. I collect them sorta, usually copy-and-paste them, and save them in a text file.
Here's a quote from an interview with a filmmaker, he's talking specifically about his movie, but it's also a general idea/statement.
“…I think that on the deepest level, this is what defines life. That we have a lot more in common than we're able to percieve. That we engage in much more cooperation than we're aware of. That there's an order that we don't comprehend, but that is big and beautiful and right, and that also has room for what's difficult or painful or unjust.”
Götz Spielmann / Criterion Interview

That's a great Plato quote, I don't think I actually had associated it with him, rather. I wish people would follow that advice. I think people's days would be much more pleasant.
