      Hi All,

Apologies if this isn’t exactly on topic for these boards, but this forum was the most suitable place I could find online for this question.

I recently suffered five weeks of extreme (situational) anxiety (day and night) and with it severe insomnia which meant I was getting perhaps three hours sleep a night, none of which was good quality sleep (racing heart, head spinning), and during that period, because of what was happening in life and work, the days were also intensely stressful.

This ended about three and a half weeks ago, since which time, rather than insomnia, I feel that when I sleep, I almost fall into unconsciousness and it’s terribly difficult to wake up in the mornings, and at the weekend’s I’ll also have a nap during the daytime.

My question is, how long does/should it take to recover from a period of sleep deprivation of this intensity and duration?

Reading online, there seems to be a division of opinion ranging from “you’ll be fine after a good sleep the following weekend” through to “it takes four days to recover from a single lost hour of sleep” (in which case I’m looking at the next two years…..).

Any advice or input or experiences on this highly are appreciated. Am tired of feeling so utterly and constantly wiped out, and no matter how many hours I sleep now (and really deeply), it seems not to make the slightest bit of difference.

      Many thanks in advance

When do you currently go to bed at night and when do you get out of bed to start your day? How many hours of sleep would you say you are getting?
