I have only had consistent trouble with sleep once before. It was last year, and it was awful. I do not remember how I got through it last time, but I did and slept beautifully for over a year. My little one got sick and I had to care for her and clean up after her in the night. My husband put in his ear plugs and said, if she dies, it is God’s will. It made me feel very alone and like my children’s lives were totally in my hands that caused my sleep to be very disrupted and it slowly got worse and worse. I think I must have begun to think, is it going to get as bad as last time and then it did, if not worse. It has taken much longer this time, but I am definitely making progress. Just very slow going it would seem. I just can’t seem to stop worrying whether or not I will be able to sleep and I try to hard.

It’s OK to worry and it’s normal to worry! Worry is a sign that your brain is generating thoughts — something it is hard-wired to do! Sometimes it can be helpful to accept and acknowledge the thoughts we have that generate worry for what they are (thoughts and nothing more or less than thoughts) rather than trying to fight or avoid them.

Thanks for sharing that you are definitely making progress — what kind of things are you doing to help create better conditions for sleep?
