I’ve noticed that when I eat raw foods, especially centred around leafy greens and green juices, my body seems to naturally be able to sleep (and wake) earlier. The more raw I eat the better my cycles are.  I’ve tried some gentle detoxing (which would have been cleaning my colon) and that seemed to both raise my energy levels and regulate my sleep too. Cooked foods, fried foods and sugar made me prone to feel depressed and get headaches; gluten makes me tired and eventually makes my joints hurt so much I can’t sleep either. It’s not easy staying on a diet though, especially when food is a coping mechanism for anxiety and stress. The other factors that affect my sleep cycle on top of this are things such as stress, worry, environment etc, but this article really resonated and supports what I’ve been noticing with sleep and food.

Do you have a link to the article you can share? I know that science is beginning to explore the role of gut health when it comes to our overall health — and that includes sleep. A healthy diet is a great way to set yourself up for good sleep — but we can’t yet say with clinical certainty what type of diet is best for sleep.
