I watched Toy Story 3. I really, really liked it. I thought the first one still stands as (one of, if not THE) best Pixar film ever made. But my bias is that I was around and reviewing films when it came out, so it was pretty revolutionary. Toy Story 2, I liked, but was letdown by, as I have been with many Pixar films. I felt like many of them had lost their magic, while I felt early Pixar was akin to the Golden Age of Disney, charting the course for the future of animated films, while remaining highly appealing to kids AND adults.
Toy Story 3 was superb, I thought. It really brought the trilogy and its themes full circle. I didn't get a chance to see it in theatres or in 3-D, but on BLU it looked absolutely fantastic. I must say, I heard a lot about people crying during this movie and it never really got that emotional for me, though I will say that it did make me experience a lot of emotions–in the best of ways.
November 12, 2010 at 7:51 pm #9126Not really a movie, but I just found that Netflix is showing a TV show serial of one of my favourite books of all time (Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett). Made in 2010, I hadn't even heard of it. My wife and I sat through 5 hour long episodes yesterday. We were hooked! 3 more to go, then I guess I have to hope they serialize the sequel (World Without End).

Is that the one with Rufus Sewell in it? They were showing it here in the UK a few weeks ago.
November 17, 2010 at 9:25 pm #9128Yup, he played Tom Builder!

November 24, 2010 at 2:44 pm #9130Hey, I'm back!!
Been watching a few movies here and there…if you follow my blogs (I know some of you do) you'll know I get to see a few preview movies and such…anyways, here's what I've been watching….
Saw 3D
I have been a big fan of the franchise since the beginning, despite the movies having more and more lame storylines, the traps have always fascinated me…so I was looking forward to this movie, as it was going to tie up loose ends and so on.
It was kinda OK, some good traps in there (especially the first one you see, that was clever) and I did like the twist at the end (and to be honest, it wasn't surprising and made a lot of sense and answered a question fans had been asking for a long time!!).
However, I'm not really sure this movie justified the 3D treatment, and because the movie was only available in 3D (I guess the clue was in the title there) but some people cannot watch 3D movies, or refuse to pay the premium to watch this type of movie, and I think that will have lost them a lot of viewers in the process.
This is supposed to be the end of the franchise, but I have my doubts, and as much as I hope it is..never say never right?
Not too bad a movie, but could have been a lot better…oh and if you are a fan of Linkin Park, you may be interested to know that singer Chester Bennington is also in the movie and let's just say he puts his back into the role….
Shutter Island
Brilliant movie, I have watched this a few times now, but I watched this again with a friend recently.
It's a great movie about a man who tries to unravel the mysteries of Shutter Island a maximum security hospital. A woman seems to have disappeared and there is another patient that is not accounted for…
The movie, although I really enjoyed it, was quite predictable really.
Rocky Horror Picture Show
This has to be one of my favourite movies, and absolute cult classic!! I have the 30th Anniversary edition of the movie in a boxset shaped like a giant pair of lips, and I have gone to the stage show too.
Couple Brad and Janet's car break down, and they go to a creepy castle for help (why do people do that?) and all sorts of insanity ensues. This is an amazing funny, and I always sing along to this (my poor neighbours!!) if you have not seen this movie..you must!!
November 27, 2010 at 9:24 pm #9131I watched Shutter Island shortly after finishing the book. They cut out a few scenes, and made a couple of changes but otherwise, it was pretty faithful to the original story. I still preferred the book on this one, though!
Has anyone seen Human Centipede? I watched that one last week and let's just say, it's stuck with me!

Yup, I've seen that…and I found it boring to be honest, didn't appeal at all. I had heard so much about this movie and thought it would be great…..and I hear there are plans for a sequel too…marvellous!

I quite enjoyed it, although I have actually seen the musical too and enjoyed it as well, great stuff
I was the new Harry Potter movie with my Cuddle Bunny on Sunday afternoon, it was ok I guess, but I was under the impression that this movie was supposed to be in 3D, yet nowhere seems to be screening it as such…and parts of the movie you could see were filmed for 3D too if that makes sense. She loved it and can't wait for the conclusion, me however….I thought it was ok, not sure if I want to see the next part though.
Next movie I want to see is Tron Legacy….I loved the original, and the trailers for this have been epically awesome so far!!
December 16, 2010 at 5:31 am #9134Well, I won't do my Christopher Nolan cheerleading routine…but I finally saw “Inception.” I'm sure you all can guess that I loved it.
I'd be interested to hear though, regardless of what you thought of the film as a whole, what everyone thought of the different aspects of dreaming and the possibilities of dreaming/subconscious that were brought up in the movie.
I still need to get around to watching the bonus features. One of them looks particularly interesting: “Dreams: Cinema of the Subconscious.”
The tagline reads: Can the Dream World be a fully functional parallel reality? Joseph Gordon-Levitt and leading scientists take you to the cutting edge of dream research.
December 17, 2010 at 5:46 am #9135has anyone seen Love and other drugs?? I think thats what its called. I want genuine feedback ,,don't trust the paper write ups lol

It kind of made me think of lucid dreaming in the sense that they're saying we have more control over our dreams and subconscious than we otherwise think.

Nope, but when it comes out on Netflix I'll watch and share my thoughts. Could be a while, though!

January 9, 2011 at 1:39 pm #9137Inception–I really liked the concept of “projections,” I never really thought of them that way, but it makes sense. I also am one of those weird people who almost never dreams about people I know in real life, so my dreams are usually almost entirely made up of “projections.”
Love and Other Drugs–I too will Netflix it, is this the one with Anne Hathaway??? Or was it another actress in the lead. I forget…I just remember it was one of my favorites.
January 9, 2011 at 6:18 pm #9138The movie “Moon”- has anyone else seen this? If not it's on your Netflix. Weird movie. Cool though.
Also- Wristcutters, a Love Story has an interesting premise
But my favorite movie lately has to be Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. Quotable and has all the best video game action.
January 9, 2011 at 7:31 pm #9139I saw Scott Pilgrim recently, too. I am not a huge fan of the actor in it – I find he is the same character in every movie (his name escapes me). I did like the first time he took someone out, though: “Sweet! Coins!”
Watched 'Borstal Boy' last night. Apparently it's a true story of an Irish teenager caught planning to plant a bomb in Liverpool during World War II. He's sent to borstal and it follows the relationships he builds and develops there. It's not an action movie, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
