Well, I have been away for a while (suffered a double whammy of a serious chest infection and swine flu, and my atrial fibrillation has started playing up again) but while I have been away I have watched a few movies on DVD and BluRay…
- THE LAST EXORCISM – Honestly, please don't watch this movie…I love horror movies, but this was way too slow and just felt like it was going nowhere fast….disappointment as Eli Roth is attached to this.[*]INCEPTION – I saw this at the cinema and loved it…and so I bought it on special edition BluRay in a metal case with download for my iPhone 🙂 doesn't screw with you head in my opinion but made absolute sense first time I watched it.[*]DEATH RACE 2000 – Yes, the original movie that the Jason Statham movie was based on, great fun..and Sly Stallone absolutely sucks in this movie!
Hope to be at the cinema soon, not sure what I will be watching yet!!
January 21, 2011 at 10:17 pm #9141I just saw the first Tron-movie. I liked the special effects of the eighties. The story was a bit lame.
Anyhow, I'm taking the kids to see TRON Legacy tomorrow. I think the special effects will be nice, I do hope the story of this one is better.
Wait and see.
January 25, 2011 at 7:21 pm #9142Let me know what you think, Annelies – I recently saw the original Tron again, but haven't seen the remake yet. People are telling me it's great visually but the story isn't all that. Sounds similar to Avatar in that respect!!

January 26, 2011 at 10:29 pm #9143Martin, it's true. Tron has terrible writing BUT the score by Daft Punk and the visuals are stunning. It had the potential to be something great, but it feels like the writers were just like hmmm… I'm running out of time! Let's just putting something in quickly! The beginning is a long lead in, and then it drops you into a Tron game without warning. Then it does a horrible job of explaining things. They use these things called “Isomorphic Algorithms” and never really tell you what they are, just that “they're going to revolutionize healthcare and life and stuff.” That is basically how I thought it was explained. Seriously though visuals and Daft Punk music make it a pretty awesome show though. I would say that comparatively to Avatar…. the story isn't even on par with that. Yikes.
January 26, 2011 at 11:08 pm #9144Hey Martin,
cherrychapstik is right. The story isn't any better than the one of the eighties. It felt like a mix of a remake and a few new storylines.
The music by Daft Punk was right on, and I think I saw them do a cameo although I'm not sure.
There were some references to the first one (like the name above the entrance of the son's place it the same as the name of the gatekeeper in the first movie – Dumont), I thought that was kinda cool.
The graphics were indeed marvellous.
So that leaves me with one question: When you live in a binary or data world, why or how could you eat? And what's with the books?
February 25, 2011 at 10:37 pm #9145Tron Legacy is one of the only movies I've seen in the theatres in literally a year or two. (I pretty much Netflix everything these days.) I admit I wasn't going into it expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised. I had heard complaints about the CGI of the young Jeff Bridges, but I found it quite tolerable, even good. I also, like just about everyone else on Earth loved the Daft Punk score. The plot line was silly, but I liked the way, as one person mentioned it merged old with new, I thought it was a very well integrated sequel considering the amount of time that has gone by and the way technology and effects and such was changed. It was also nice to see a female character, and although I do find the actress, Olivia Wilde, “hot” it was nice that they didn't just “sex up” her character or make her a mere love interest as they often do to females in these movies. My biggest complaint had nothing to do with the movie, but just that I wasn't able to see it in 3-D due to the showtimes that we made it to.
March 18, 2011 at 12:54 pm #9146Oh my god!
I was just forced (by my children) to watch 2 of the Twilight-movies. Man, they suck! (Or actually not. It's kinda funny, a vampire movie without fangs, blood or some kind of mutulated bodies)
I read somewhere one of the movies was nominated for a golden raspberry. Well, I couldn't agree more.
The acting is poor, the dialogues are even worse. Luckily there's some eyecandy (I'm NOT talking about Robert Pattinson, but the werewolve boys) or would have been a total disaster.
I think I will need a serious True Blood shot to get over this vampire-debacle.

I love Big Fish, and liked Nightmare before Christmas when I was a child, but honestly I don't consider myself a fan honestly since his work just is bland I find, I do appreciate him as an artist just everything he does just seems so boring, it's different than what everyone else does but it just seems like his work is hollow, to me it feels like he does what he does but isn't happy doing it or something.
One thing that ruined Nightmare Before Christmas was EVERYONE loves it now, it's the new thing to love, especially where I live, every girl who isn't popular loves it and they all got tattoos of it, even the ones who never seen it!
I used to not be a fan of Tim Burton movies..until I started going to the theatre to watch them. Something about seeing them in the theatre is different. You can really get the full affect of his creativity and visual effects. The first movie of his I saw in the theatre was Coraline and it was AMAZING. Now, I ONLY watch Tim Burton moview in theatres. It has a totally different effect!
March 28, 2011 at 8:20 pm #9148I finally got around to watching The Wrestler last night. It was very different to what I was expecting, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Some of the scenes are pretty shocking – my wife had to look away many times during the wrestling matches and during the 'aftermath' when the doctors are working on him.
Some great acting, too. What did you all think of the movie?

I loved The Wrestler, was a great movie…and not quite what I initially expected, in fact in a lot of ways it was better.
Watched Unknown yesterday, wasn't too bad, some good action scenes and a good thriller on the whole.
April 11, 2011 at 4:31 pm #9150Went to see Suckerpunch in the theatre. I loved all the symbolism in the movie. Great action scenes too.
April 11, 2011 at 6:54 pm #9151I see Black Swan is available on Amazon On Demand. Worth watching?

April 11, 2011 at 7:03 pm #9152My flatmate says it is epically awesome and a must watch…I've not seen it yet though!!
I want to see Fast & Furious 5, here in UK in a couple of weeks!!
April 20, 2011 at 5:08 am #9153Great topic! I watch a lot of movies; I guess I could say I'm an amateur film bug. The latest (good) movies I've seen lately are Black Swan, Fur: The Imaginative Diary of Diane Arbus, and Elizabeth: The Golden Age. To be fair, though, it wasn't the first time I'd seen “Fur”. I just like watching it every now and then.

Definitely worth watching! I saw it two days ago, having sat down with a notebook to brainstorm during- that was pointless- I never even touched my pen or paper during the movie. I got so wrapped up in it, I even shouted at the television during crucial scenes. I recommended it to my father the moment I went online afterward; he watched it the next day and loved it just as much.
