I want to see Rise of the Planet of the Apes, too. Maybe this weekend I'll get out to see it.

August 11, 2011 at 8:06 pm #9201I've just finished watching Red Riding Hood (thankyou iTunes US, I got it a fortnight earlier than UK!!!) and thought it was quite good, although it could have been better.
It's not really based on the faerie tale either, although there are a few nods toward it. Good thriller with romantic undertones.
August 16, 2011 at 7:11 pm #9202Hmmm, I'm back here…square eyes much? 🙂
Over the last few days I've been catching up on movies downloaded (need testing to make sure they work…that's my excuse any!! 😉 )
CHOOSE – A bit of an odd movie really, about a crazy person who gives people gory choices, and either way the outcome isn't good (for example someone was given a choice between sight and beauty…lose their sight or be disfigured). It was ok, not a bad movie to switch the brain off too (like most horror I've watched).
JENNIFER'S BODY – Hmmm, an ok movie…a demon possesses this girl and she kills the boys who lust after her. Could have been better but could have been much worse!
There are a few more but my concentration isn't excellent for me to write it all…sorry folks!!
August 17, 2011 at 5:10 pm #9203Finally saw Rise of the Planet of the Apes this week. Overall, I enjoyed it. I thought it plodded along a bit, but I think they did an OK job of explaining how we got to the point in the original movies. What I don't get is if the apes are so advanced, why (in the original movies) do they live so primitively?

August 18, 2011 at 8:32 pm #9204I still have not seen that yet…may try next week if I feel up to it.
On my Canadian iTunes account I downloaded the following movies…
Kill Bill Volumes 1&2
Mum And Dad
The Crazies (2010 version)
Resident Evil
Drag Me To Hell (Unrated)
Not a bad way to spend £40!
Also, if anyone here is in the UK and on the Orange cellphone network you may be interested to hear you can get a “free” movie rental off iTunes….although you do not choose the movie, Orange choose a specific movie each week (for example this week is The Wrestler) but if it is a movie you have not watched and want to (or don't own and want to watch again!!) then texting for a code (which costs you costof text and 35p!!) isn't too bad…and to think you could watch 4 different movies for under £3!!
September 23, 2011 at 11:20 pm #9205Hobo With a Shotgun.
I normally don't like gory movies, but that movie is just so awesome, in so many ways.

I must admit this does look good, and hope to watch it soon. Rutger Hauer is a great actor, thought The Hitcher and Blind Fury were great movies.
I have recently watched the first 4 Fast And Furious movies, I buy my movies as downloads now, and was able to pick up the DVD boxset with downloads of all 4 movies for £10, saving me £18 on the downloads if I'd bought them from the iTunes store!
September 24, 2011 at 7:52 am #9207I just watch all my movies on 1channel.ch
The url of that site changes frequently though. For…certain reasons.
But yes! Watch it! 😀 Just be warned, there's a lot of blood, and you end up seeing a lot of people from the inside out. (yay intestines!)

That's fine, I like gore in movies…tends to make me crave raw liver though…
September 26, 2011 at 11:46 am #9209You don't really get any good films any more.
My favourite film has always been Zulu, and still is, I can watch it over and over. 😀
Watched Rise of the Planet of the Apes other week, and it was alright. Didn't live up to the hype but, it was enjoyable and a nice watch for any POTA fans.
As for horrors, I don't think they even make them anymore do they? They only make slasher films now'a'days. Rawr I'm a bad man and I'm going to slice you up. Aaahh I'm a stereotyped American cheerleading teenager and I'm going to run around screaming for half for the film as my airhead friends get stabbed and sliced and slashed and smashed and then the guy who I initially hate but fancies me is going to save me and then I'm going to fall inlove with them and then oh noez he gets his head chopped off and I scream some more but pluck up some courage out of nowhere to fight back and yay The End.
Same old boring tosh I've seen a million times.
There hasn't been a good horror since the original Exorcist IMO.
September 26, 2011 at 5:39 pm #9210I agree with you about the Planet of the Apes prequel. They didn't ruin it, but it wasn't anything fantastic either. I found it interesting how they explained how the apes got their intelligence and pushed humans down the 'food chain'. Definitely better than the remake I'd say.

September 27, 2011 at 12:41 am #9211Never know, could happen for real one day! There's evidence of apes in the wild already that have learned how to use tools and weapons, such as make-shift spears!
September 27, 2011 at 12:46 am #9212Quote:Chimpanzees in Senegal have been observed making and using wooden spears to hunt other animals, according to a study in the journal Current Biology. It's the first time primates have been seen using tools to hunt. This report from Keith Adams:Listen to the story
Chimps have been known to use tools before, to crack nuts for instance, but this use of spear-like weapons to attack other animals is completely new. Anthropologists from Iowa State University observed the apes at a site in Senegal. They say the chimps gnaw at sticks to sharpen them, then thrust them into tree hollows to hunt out small nocturnal mammals called bushbabies. One of the scientists who observed this, Jill Pruetz, says the innovative apes were predominantly females or the very young. I asked her why.
JILL PRUETZ: “When I saw the behaviour the most, that was during a time when the chimps ranged around as one cohesive group. I think it was a response by immatures and females to competition within the group. So they can't outcompete adult males in terms of resources, so I think this is just an innovative way of solving a problem in terms of food availability.”
Chimpanzees are said to be our closest relatives in the animal kingdom, sharing 98 percent of our DNA. Jill Pruetz says that her discovery could shed light on how humans began using tools, and she says it could lend support to theories that it was our female ancestors who first used weapons.

The question here is, have the chimps learned the use of spears as a weapon and tool of hunting through natural evolution, or, have they actually learned it by watching human poachers/hunters?

September 28, 2011 at 5:13 am #9214Saw the Guns of Batasi today, Richard Attenborough (sp?) and Jack Hawkins, surprised I haven't seen it before, just my kind of film! Apparently old (or young as he was then) Richard won an oscar for that film in his role as the troubled and dedicated Sergeant Major.
