Odd you should say that, if there is one thing that annoys me with the Twilight Saga is they have sparkly skin…and NO TEETH!!
The last half decent vampire/Dracula movie I've seen was 30 Days of Night…
February 1, 2010 at 8:39 pm #9006Sparkly skin is for sure a no-go, thank you very much. I prefer my vampires in the dark, with fangs, and scaring the pee out of me. I love a good scare, except for the Grudge.
That movie made me leave my lights on at night for a full week. lol
February 1, 2010 at 8:49 pm #9007Did you see the most awesome Japanese version, or the second rate US remake?
I went with my flatmate to see the remake, it scared her so much she wanted to leave the cinema! She refuses to watch the Japanese one…
February 1, 2010 at 8:54 pm #9008I saw the second rate US one. I can't bring myself to watch any Japanese horror films, especially alone and none of my girlfriends will come watch them with me.

Well, what movies do you like ma'am? I like all sorts of movies (if you have seen my databas on my introduction you'd see what I mean) what do you want me to do, just throw out some random selections?

You are really missing out, the Japanese are absolute masters at psychological horror, brilliant stuff!!
February 15, 2010 at 9:23 pm #9012Well, I went and saw it, so I guess it's time for a review…
THE WOLFMAN (15)I love horror movies, I have done so since watching A Nightmare On Elm Street when I was 13…so when I heard that there was going to be a remake of the Universal classic The Wolf Man I was excited and worried at the same time…and those thoughts were at the back of my mind as I was queuing up to get my ticket.
In case you are not familiar with the story, a man returns back to his ancestral homeland and is attacked by a beast, turning him into a wolf man every full moon.
Before I go any further, although this is based on the 1941 classic, this is really a different story…sure the names are the same, but that's it to be honest…don't get me wrong, it had the gore, the thrills, a touch of comedy and even a little romance, but for some odd reason a lot of the time while I was watching it I was thinking about An American Werewolf In London.
The film was good, and I did enjoy it, but I do feel that it could have been much better, and in some places it felt to me they were overthinking.
All in all if you want to see this movie, save your cash and get the original…it reigns supreme. 5/10
February 16, 2010 at 6:49 pm #9013I am a massive movie fanatic but tend to prefer less mainstream more arty type films, although I do think there's a place for popcorn flicks and silliness at the cinema, I'm not a total film snob.
That said, I value good scripts and good acting and too many films are made purely with lets see how much cash we can make, or never mind the script, check out the shiny CGI in mind. I also despair of the sequel/remake culture. It shows a certain lack of originality of thought. Also I hate patronising chick flicks that presume the only thing a woman can possibly want to do is get married. Bleh. Where has all the good feminist cinema gone?
Anyway, I saw Sherlock Holmes the other day. It's fun but style over substance comes to mind, which is a pity because it was full of really great actors who could have been brilliant if the script had been a bit darker and a little less cartoony. It kind of descended in to silly set pieces which were set ups for slightly naff jokes. Still, looked gorgeous.
I have to state for the record. I f'ing HATED Avatar. Everything I dislike about movie making. Spectacular? Yes. Overblown and boring, absolutely. I was nodding off with my 3D specs on. Also, it was essentially Ferngully in 3D!
I still think my top recent-ish big film was Zombieland. I'm a huge horror fan.
February 16, 2010 at 7:22 pm #9014I keep hearing rave reviews about Zombieland. May have to check that one out.
February 16, 2010 at 7:34 pm #9015It's a really fun film. The zombies are kind of not the main focus despite the title, it's more of a road movie which happens to have zombies in. Good movie though. 🙂
February 16, 2010 at 8:48 pm #9016Zombieland is awesome, wanted twinkies after seeing that!
March 1, 2010 at 7:33 pm #9017This week is gonna be good movie wise…
I'm thinking about seeing The Crazies during the week, then on Sunday I'm seeing Alice In Wonderland in 3D…and I have preview tickets (I get them for free a lot) for a movie called The Blind Side…Will put my thoughts here when I see the movies, as well as on my personal blog.
March 1, 2010 at 7:38 pm #9018Well as I've been experiencing a cold lately, we've been watching quite a few movies.
Finally saw Zombieland – I think I enjoyed it more than my wife; it's great as long as you don't take the film seriously (it certainly doesn't take itself that way)! Also saw Big Fish; it was alright, a little slow for me but worth the watch.
My wife finally got me to see Shop Girl – we are both Steve Martin fans; I enjoyed it although I thought it took a while to really 'get going'. The final 20 minutes saved the film for me; I think the book would be far better – need to read it at some point.
Also watched Master & Commander – an enjoyable film, but I didn't really like Russell Crowe's character (or just Russell Crowe) – a bit smarmy. Last night I gave in to my love of the 80s and rented Masters of the Universe! Hadn't seen the film for about 15 years – was a real blast from the past!

Masters of the Universe is pretty cool, always been a fan of He-Man, have the first season of the original animated show on DVD here at Yam Towers!
This weekend Ihave basically chilled out ans watched Transformers (2007 movie) and Sweeny Todd.
Transformers is pretty cool (although I would say that being a fan of…well..Tranformers!) and should be fun for people who are fans of huge robots or sci-fi.
Sweeny Todd is awesome! I have been a fan of Tim Burton since watching Beetlejuice and this is a great vision of the musical…a huge must watch, if I had them I'd give 10 thumbs up!
