I have health anxiety and had relapse of my isomnia starting in December with a dental issue I was having. My sleep has been getting progressively worse this week with broken sleep and the worse was last night with anxiety body tension that kept me awake and tossing and turning as I could not get my body comfortable and only got me an hour or two of sleep right before I had to get up at 8am. I had this same thing happen 2 years ago and was prescribed a low dose sertaline and trazadone which seem to help and stopped taking 1 year later with no problems till now. I do have a doctor appt , but they can’t get me in till the 25th and any advise is welcome!

Hello Egj and welcome to the forum. Have you found yourself acting toward sleep in ways that are different since insomnia showed up in December, compared to when you were sleeping well? If so, what are the differences?

When anxiety shows up at night, have you tried responding in a way that might be different to staying in bed and tossing and turning (since it sounds as though that’s something you haven’t found to be helpful)?

Thanks for your reply! I have implemented some changes to my sleep routine , no phone or tablet and in bed at midnight with some sleep meditations and up at 8am everyday, before this bout of insomnia I would be on my tablet till 1- 1:30am and would listen to a sleep story and would have little trouble falling asleep with wakeups in the night sometimes but able to get back to sleep usually and a wake up time of 7am – 9am . I was given trazadone last week and it has helped a little but I am getting fragmented sleep with wake ups at 2am and 4am almost every night and averaging about 5 – 5 1/2 hours sleep. I have also started a online CBTI SLEEPIO. Any other advise is much appreciated!

If you’re going through the Sleepio course, it might be helpful to focus your attention there — I don’t want to share anything that might conflict with what you’re learning there and end up creating confusion!
