I feel like my nights with no sleep end up NOT being opportunities for growth but nights of torture with PTSD. I watch tv, read, listen to meditations, all the while having the feeling of a panic attack that I cannot shake. I’m angry, disappointed, and scared all at the same time. I know I can function the next day with little or no sleep, but it doesn’t help the horrible anxiety that I have about it. I cannot seem to get over this hurdle, and it makes me really, really sad.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

I am sorry to hear you are struggling. If you think you have ptsd, perhaps you should consult a qualified professional for a more professional evaluation. Because nothing here constitute medical advice.

Unfortunately, the sleeping part is a normal biological and physiological process that your body usually takes care of by itself. The only advice to sleep better is actually very simple. Go to bed at regular hours. Keep your bedroom comfortable and conducive for sleeping. Learn to destress and try doing enjoyable and relaxing activities before bed. Then leave the rest to your body. Of course, keeping a positive and optimistic attitude helps. Good luck and I wish you well.

Anxiety can be very difficult to deal with, no doubt about it.

You’ve been responding by watching TV, reading, and listening to meditations. If those things worked, what would be different?

Your awareness that you can function the next day with little or no sleep is a powerful insight that can be used to help you move away from putting pressure on yourself to “perform” sleep or put effort into making it happen (something your experience seems to tell you only makes it more difficult).

What does “getting over this hurdle” mean to you? How will you know when you have gotten over this hurdle?
