Have anyone tried this?
Doing a lot of exercises in the morning and practicing Sleep Restriction Therapy (consists in waking up at the same time every day even when you did not sleep well).
My insomnia is caused by alertness and i did not tried this yet because im afraid i will lay down in bed exhausted and still not be able to sleep, thats my biggest fear.
If anyone have tried something similar please share.
Thank you
October 19, 2012 at 12:04 am #14182Exercise definitely helps, exhausting yourself.
I started taking long walks through the woods and around the lake with my dog, drinking copious amounts of caffeine, I'd stay up all night, and all day the next day.
By 9/10 PM next day I'd be out and sleeping like a baby.
Often enough I fell asleep sat in my computer chair!
October 19, 2012 at 10:50 pm #14183Sleep Restriction Therapy can definitely be helpful – in fact, it's one of the principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for insomnia, which has proven to be more effective at improving sleep than sleeping pills.

October 30, 2012 at 9:24 pm #14184Exercise is helping me a great deal with my insomnia. Whilst it never really goes away, it's, well, less infuriating when I exercise. Since the body is made to work, and be used, when it is done so effectively your body will feel better and more fulfilled, and able to rest better.
October 31, 2012 at 10:07 am #14185Haha, yes! This is probably the main way I get to sleep, by exhausting myself physically and mentally, I'll go days without sleep, while going to work still, coming home walking my dogs, sometimes I'll even walk home from work which is 4miles, I work the overnight shift at a mexican restaurant, and there is a lot of physical work, lots of running around, carrying things that weigh 50lbs or more, and I work 10-12hr shifts, so it takes a toll on my body daily, even moreso when I haven't slept and do it all over again the next day, so I mean I'm not really restricting sleep by any means, I just continue to go to work despite the fact I've been awake for 2days, still don't let this inability to sleep phase me, I mean I a very strong-willed person mentally, I can make myself do lots of things weird if I force myself to like not eating for a week, I can do like its nothing, so pushing myself to continually work just makes me more and more tired as each day passes til one day when I come home from work I'll just surprisingly crash then wake up like wow, guess I must have needed that sleep, sl sleeping by means of exhaustion is right up my alley haha
October 31, 2012 at 3:48 pm #14186Dear nonsleepers, I tried all that you are writing about. What I don't understand is why the medical community is not taking this situation more seriously. Sleep driving and handling machinery is known to be very dangerous. Wearing yourself out just wears your out. I tried sleep restriction too. I would go for 4-5 days without more than 2 hours of sleep and on the next night I would sleep 10-12 hours and throw the whole program off. It's a vicious circle
Good sleep

Hello, fellow Oregonian! I completely agree – and that is why I started Insomnia Land in the first place. At least here, there is one place in the world where insomnia is taken seriously and isn't ignored.

November 1, 2012 at 9:24 pm #14188I gave up drinking coffe and other caffineated drinks. I only eat chocolate in the am. I loved my coffee, but sleep was more inportant to me. So when I didn't see any improvement to my sleep patterns I knew I had a real problem not related to what I was drinking. I have heard so many solutions and gimmicks that I just sick of it all. I worked as a Psych nurse working different shifts and have wondered if that broke something in my sleep cycle.
Good sleep to all.
