        Welcome to the forum, @Alyna12.

When you have these negative thoughts about sleep, how do you respond to them? What is it about the idea of not being able to fall asleep that seems to generate that anxiety?

Whenever I go to bed with thoughts like not being able to sleep I always try to replace them with the positive ones but deep down there’s a voice telling me you can’t sleep. Every single night now a days is a hell. I’m on antidepressants as well because I’m so anxious all the time thinking about sleep.

Yeah, thoughts crave our attention! It’s really not the thoughts or anxiety that’s causing sleep disruption but our struggle with those thoughts. When we try to control or avoid our thoughts we can find ourselves trapped in this endless struggle with them. Since most of our thoughts aren’t helpful and since we can’t control them, what if you created space to allow it to exist for as long as it wants to hang out? Acknowledge the thought when it arrives – “Thank you for that thought, mind!” – and continue engaging in the activity you were doing when it arrived. It may want to hang around a bit after the greeting but responding in that manner creates space between you and the thought. I wonder if attempting to change those negative thoughts with positive ones would be considered control techniques?

            Hope that helps,
