My huge problem is being on sleep medicine and needing to get off before I can even try to sleep. I take three medications, one for neuropathy which should be taken during the day at smaller dosages. I have reduced the amount but ahead lies the problem of sleepless nights from addiction and titrating down on pills before I can even deal with sleeplessness. I am 75 years old so this is not easy. I have been an insomniac since my hysterectomy and ovary removal so at least at first it was hormonal.

Hi rdelfin, I am 70 and can relate to having to take this and that medication. We start needing to take stuff for all sorts of things.

I cannot speak to drugs for neuropathy or side effects. i do know that the best source for drug information is pharmacists. Doctors know a thing or two, of course, but pharmacists focus their academic studies and career solely on, well….pharmaceuticals.

As a man, I also cannot speak to the effects of hysterectomy and ovary removal. But I do know insomnia can start for one reason and then keep hanging around even after that first cause has passed. So if it turns out that the drugs you are taking are not fueling the insomnia, perhaps it is sleep anxiety generally. I am guessing this latter is what drives insomnia for most people. Certainly was for me, anyway.

Lots of good info on Martin’s website on sleep anxiety and how our thoughts can get the better of us.

Take care, you are not alone in this.
