Was doing a “lite” version of sleep restriction therapy but then per doctors guidance decided to go all in with 5 hour window and stop taking my sleep meds (Doxepin). Have been sleeping 2-4 hours last few days so was expecting the sleep deficit to allow me to sleep better during my window by now but I feel like I’m more anxious than before and tossing turning more. Does it get worse before it gets better?

It’s not uncommon for sleep to temporarily get worse before it gets better, because of the monitoring that occurs any time we make such a dramatic change. If you are able to stick to a consistent and appropriate sleep window, I am sure that — before too long — you will notice improvements in your sleep. Good luck!

Thanks! Those first couple days really felt like the worst of my life–nobody warned me SRT would be this hard and I’m used to doing difficult things! However, last two nights have been much better and I feel like I’m at a turning point. Fingers crossed–might have some bad nights ahead but I feel like I have evidence now that I can get out of this. It helped me a lot mentally to just remember I can’t control sleep and all I can do is set up myself up for a good night by rigorously doing sleep hygiene and SRT and let my body take care of the rest.
