I am doing Martin’s two week email program in hopes that it will help me sleep more deeply so that I spend less time in bed and less time sleeping. I’m someone who has always needed 10 – 12 hours of sleep a night and this feels excessive and is disruptive to my daily productivity.

I’m hoping to use CBT-i to fall asleep sooner, stay asleep, and sleep more deeply so I need less sleep.

Either when I’m about to fall asleep or when I wake up after falling asleep for a few hours, I experience what I would call “physical anxiety.” Meaning that my body feels anxiety without any specific thought to trigger the anxiety and keeps me from falling to sleep or falling back to sleep.

I’m assuming I have some deeply buried anxiety that is being triggered but I’m not able to identify the source of this “physical anxiety.”

Hopefully, increasing my sleep drive will help with this.

Glad to hear you’ve signed up for Martin’s course and I believe you’ll find the CBT-I techniques beneficial. Can you explain what you’re referring to when you say, “physical anxiety”? What’s your body feeling and are there any specific thoughts about sleep or other stressful life events going through your mind at the time you experience arousal?
