And I was utterly disappointed.
Not with the story or the plot as such its self.. but more with the copious amounts of ridiculous and amateur plot holes, I'm deeply disappointed in Ridley Scott, he's let himself down big time.
Has anyone else watched it? What did you think? Here's a list of the plot holes I picked up when I watched it, please feel free to reply adding your own to the list:
When it first shows Prometheus in space, it says “3.2 x 10 km from Earth”
That its self doesn't make sense. 3.2 what? And why x it by 10 in km? Perhaps it means 3.2 light years, x it by 10 km. Or perhaps it just means 113km from Earth.
Either way.. it didn't make sense.
Later in the film, it's stated that “I didn't travel half a billion miles from Earth to..”…… excuse me? Pretty sure they were supposed to be at the other side of the Universe somewhere? If they're only half a billion miles from Earth they haven't even reached Venus. So yes, according to this plot hole, Prometheus is set somewhere on a fictitious planet near Venus!
The woman scientist's suit declares “you have 30 seconds of oxygen left”.. blimey heck it was the longest 30 seconds I've ever known, she kept her helmet on for hours after that without replacing the oxygen. But the funniest thing was, when she was in the crashed ship with great big massive holes in the hull (though not as many as in the plot line) leading to the outside.. she took her helmet off and suddenly the planet's atmosphere was magically OK!
Also.. this scientific expedition half-way across the Universe (oops.. sorry, half-way towards Venus apparently) with this huge ship, scientific team, all this technology only cost $1 trillion.
I mean that is an unrealistic bargain considering we can't even land a manned mission on Mars for that, never mind with the cost of 80 years inflation added on top of it.
And isn't future technology fantastic?! They have little orbs that can fly in the air, defy gravity, fly through caves with fully automated AI.. yet to climb a wall they've gotta use an old fashioned ladder. So they've invented anti-gravity matter, but don't have boots or suits that can utilize it? Well, I suppose this plot hole can be tied in with the $1 trillion plot hole. A ladder would cost a lot less than a jet pack or anti-gravity boots!
There were a lot more I picked up but these were the main film-destroyers and enjoyment-stoppers for me. It's like Ridley Scott didn't even try. “I'm a famous director I'll just slap a film together without reviewing the script, it'll make millions so it's fine”.
My rating 4/10.
And that's being generous. I gave it a 4 because the story line its self is promising, encouraging and did have the potential to be fantastic. It's just a shame the plot holes absolutely destroyed its under-lying potential.
