went to bed at 9:30 couldn’t fall asleep so got up watched some t.v. Grew tired so shut the t.v. off at 11:00 woke up wide awake at 3:28. Not much sleep and dreading the feeling of being tired tomorrow before I get to church. When I am overtired I get neck pain  and slight headache and need to rest when that happens. Their are days I don’t feel tired throughout the day but most days if I’m idle the lack of sleep slows me way down and I don’t feel like working or doing anything. I need to figure this out cause I have to return to work in Aug. I don’t like taking medication because of its side affects and it could cause health issues down the road. So I’m really need to figure this out. I don’t have caffeine during the day and I don’t exercise like I should. I am not overweight but underweight for my height. I saw the insomnia coach through Facebook. I’m hoping to get the help I need without spending money. Thanks for your interest in helping myself and others that are sleep deprived.

This has been going on a number of years. Thought it was because of work, but I’m off on summer break. It is still an issue. Once I wake up or my sleep is disrupted I cannot go back to sleep for hours if there is time to go back to sleep. I have been to my Doctor put me on sleep meds didn’t like how they made me feel in the am. I also have tried Trazodone because it has less side affects. I have decided I don’t want to take anything but melatonin. I have been trying your ideas which I have done some of them in the past. I know I don’t get much exercise, when I’m home from work I have so much to do lesson plans  supper, meetings  household  stuff etc. I am a 20 year cancer survivor of throat and neck cancer never smoke or drank. Had to have radiation because I was  stage 4. I am on thyroid med. have been for 20 years. I have blood test every year and physicals. Always seem to br tired. When ever I rest in the chair or couch or still I could doze off, that’s when I go to bed and then guess what I can’t fall to sleep. I really need to feel rested during the day I work with 3 to 5 year olds. Grandma of 5 and like to be active with them too. Thanks, hope this gives you more insight.

From what you’ve written, it sounds as though your mind has associated the bed with wakefulness and sleep-related worry, Donna — and that’s probably why you find that you are able to sleep on the chair or couch, but struggle as soon as you get into bed. Are you able to sleep for long periods of time when you sleep in a place other than your bed/bedroom?

About 1-2 maybe 3 depending on how tired I am. Whenever I feel relaxed and still I feel like sleeping. There are times I just have to close my eyes and rest. When I get really tired my neck and shoulders ache and I get light headed. The radiation I had have caused some real issues with my neck pain in back of my neck. Hope this helps and thanks again!

Hang in there Donna. It’s so hard, you’re not alone. I’m struggling too. It’s hard when it feels like everyone else naturally gets the sleep they need. I had a terrible reaction to trazadone.

                  Hi Donna!

Im right there with you. My insomnia issues really got bad at the same time as another health issue. I had some really bad vertigo and no one could find a cause. That got me worrying so much about brain tumors and other possibilities that I couldn’t sleep and then I was dizzier.

I also thought insomnia was related to my work and I’m still not sure that wasn’t a factor but even since I quit I’m still having issues.

Glad to connect here and trade stories and helpful ideas. I’m thinking of a few for you.

                  🙂 optimistic zzzzz
