Six months ago, I began to feel depressed every day due to work pressure. In the beginning, I tried running every day to adjust my mood and state. But, I don’t know when I started to lose sleep at night, my heart told me that I should go to bed earlier, but the truth is, I lay in bed tossing and turning for hours and could not fall asleep. After such a period of time, I want to try to improve my insomnia, so I read books and drink some water before going to bed to help me fall asleep.Yes, I failed again. Now it’s getting worse and worse. I can’t sleep almost all night and feel very negative about everything.

        Hi Josephine,

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Don’t worry – things can get much better. What you are going through is very very common, and you are definitely not a failure for having depression and insomnia. They are closely linked together. May I suggest you take a look at some of the courses on offer by the Australian mental health group “This Way Up”. (www.thiswayup.org.au). They have a free online course on insomnia, and the cost of their courses on anxiety and depression are very low. I got a lot of help out of these courses, and they are anonymous and confidential.

        All the best to you.

          Hi Josephine!

I had the same problem as you. Around 4-5 years ago.
I had a stressful experience with a Government Work programme (I’m British) I was unemployed at the time. I was forced to go and look for work at an place called Prospects. We all had to go one to three times a week to look for jobs, or get our benefit money (Welfare)
stopped. I was not sleeping because of this.
I then got a job and started work. I have to add that during the interview for this job I hadn’t slept the night before.
So my first day was not great. Over the coming days I still wasn’t sleeping.
Then my company was to move to North London.
I had to travel four hours to work and back. It was awful!
Over the next 4 months I had to do this, day in, day out……total hell. I have to say that the first day I started this job …..I started hearing voices…..from the sleep deprivation. It was heart and mind breaking! All in all I worked 5 months there.
During those five months I was prescribed Quetiapine (Seraquel) for the voices, and to help me sleep.
In the 5 months I worked there I slept ….you know real sleep, for 7 weeks. 7weeks of real sleep because of the meds. It was a nightmare. Then I fell ill because the voices were still there!
I rang in sick to say I couldn’t come to work one day. …….They sacked me over the phone.
I was glad. I could finally recover at home. I got lot’s of sleep after that. I was finally able to recover!
I was elated! The voices were being kept under control and I could finally sleep normally.
          I felt so much better.
