I’m really at my wits end. Been struggling now for 10 weeks on very little sleep and it feels like a nightmare. I keep thinking I’ll get through it but have few ok night , 5 to 6 hours and then back to 2 to 3 hours. I’m increasingly anxious over how long I can survive like this. Bags starting to appear under eyes and looking quite ill from sleep deprivation which isn’t helping.

I’m considering taking antidepressants to kerb the anxiety, which is getting worse, I wake up with a racing heart. Has anyone else had experience good or bad of taking antidepressants to help with their anxiety and subsequently helped their sleep?

Would really appreciate some advice here as in a dilemma as to what to do for the best. It’s good to have a group where people understand and can support with advice and knowledge.

Sorry to hear about your ongoing struggles with sleep, Marie72. Are you currently following any kind of sleep window? Since you have been experiencing such inconsistent sleep for ten weeks, this suggests to me that you don’t have a consistent sleep window — but perhaps I am wrong!

Waking with a racing heart is a common symptom of hyperarousal, which is common among people with chronic insomnia — but if you have any concerns about this, you should seek medical advice.

Ultimately, if you have chronic insomnia, the very best treatment option is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I).

If you are ready to stop struggling with insomnia you can enroll in the online insomnia coaching course right now! If you would prefer ongoing phone or video coaching calls as part of a powerful three month program that will help you reclaim your life from insomnia, consider applying for the Insomnia Mastery program.
