As long as I remember, I have suffered from insomnia. I also suffer from OCD and is difficult for me to create a sleep routine. Two years ago, I had a really difficult time and I couldn t sleep for five days. I tried Clonazepan, but side effects were really bad. I drink too much coffee, I feel anxiety. I think that support from someone else could make a difference.

        Hi @Leo1969 and welcome!

Can you describe your sleep, on a typical night? What time do you usually go to bed at night, when do you get out of bed, and how many hours of sleep would you say you get on an average night?

          Hi Scott
Sometimes I go to bed at 11pm, sometimes at 12 pm, wake up at 1am, at 2am or 3 am and don ‘t go to bed until the other day.

            That’s good info, thank you.

So I’m clearer on your situation and possibly understand what may be causing your insomnia, I have a few more questions.
            – When you go to bed, are you sleepy or are you simply going to bed at those times because that’s what time you’ve always gone to bed even though you may not be sleepy?
            – Do you get out of bed in the morning to start your day at relatively the same time every day, including weekends?
            – When you wake in the middle of the night, do you become anxious and frustrated or do you remain calm and relaxed?
            – If you begin to have anxious thoughts about your sleep, how does that make you feel and how do you manage those thoughts?

Hopefully, the answers will narrow our scope. Thank you!

I will be sincere. I am a Venezuelan inmigrant in Brazil. We have a humanitarian crisis in my country. The first time I came, I was alone, without my family. I was in a support house for inmigrants in Belo Horizonte, and then went to Brasilia. I had never been alone . I sufered from depression, my OCD increased and I had psychotic syntoms. I had never suffered from psychosis. Fortunately, I went back to Venezuela and then back to Brazil. I had a long treatment and am feeling better every day . I have controled my OCD syntoms step by step, even if insomnia persists. When I go to bed I feel sleepy. I don t wake up the same time every day. When I wake up in the middle of the night I get anxious.

That certainly sounds like a challenging time, @Leo1969.

Many individuals experience waking during the night without being consciously aware of it. The challenge in returning to sleep often arises from our desire to resist nighttime wakefulness. This resistance may lead us to feel pressured to quickly return to sleep.

What is it about waking in the middle of the night that makes you anxious? If you begin to have anxious thoughts about your sleep, how does that make you feel and how do you manage those thoughts?
