I’ve spent the last few months tapering and cross-tapering my sleep meds. I was on Klonopin, Seroquel, Remeron, and Gabapentin. I’m now on just Quviviq and Unisom, but not sleeping great. 4 or 5 hours on a good night. I think it’s time for me to try CBT-i.

If I do CBT-i, should I only taper after I start to experience improvements in my sleep? Or can I stick to my psychiatrist’s taper schedule and taper regardless of when I see improvements in my sleep? I’m feeling like I’ll never be able to sleep without meds, so I really want CBT-i to work.

I’d suggest asking your psychiatrist this question. In my experience, there’s not usually much of a difference between people who taper at a certain point vs at another point — having a clear plan in place (and sticking to it) is usually more important.
