What's the best gig/concert you've ever been to, and why?
Mine's got to be seeing the UK Subs in Rotherham last year, for one, I didn't even know they were still going! Two, I had a really good chat with Charlie Harper at the bar, and he bought me a drink!
May 30, 2011 at 7:46 am #12571Seeing Jamiroqaui in Perth, Australia was awesome – managed to barge through the crowd and get right to the front row. Seeing James Brown in Toronto, Canada and being treated to a virtually unheard-of encore was pretty special, too. Prince was great at the O2 in London. Hard to choose from those three.
Get this, a couple of weeks ago I even saw Meatloaf! He was playing at a casino a couple of hours away. Found out about it in the morning, and drove down the same day. Totally spur of the moment but that was a lot of fun, too.

Of all of Loreena McKennitt's concerts I've attended (five?), I think the 1998 concert in San Francisco was the best. Many of us on the fan list, who lived in the Bay Area, got together for a group ticket buy (which meant adjacent seats, too), and several of us got together for dinner beforehand–and before the tortuous walk up Nob Hill–steeper than 45deg. I had written to the liaison at Quinlan Road to ask about backstage passes or a chance to share a drink or meal with her, and I was given two. One of them was a present to a friend for her birthday. When it turned out there were 24 of us going to the concert, I wrote back and asked if there were a way I wouldn't be killed by the other folk on the list when they found out what I'd scored? We then acheived 24 backstage passes, and what I hadn't known then, a listers-only meet & greet. I made lots of folk happy that night, in addition to having had a great time at a great concert.
I can't think of which Stan Rogers concert would have been best–I am just grateful I made every single one he gave in the LA area before he died.
I can't recall any bigger-name folk whose concerts I've attended–obviously they haven't been memorable enough. I've certainly been to folk festivals where I got to see & hear so many favorites through the years. I remember a couple of concerts during college, on campus, where the setting enhanced the music being played.
Ah, Silly Wizard played two concerts at CalTech when I was in the folk music club, and I recall the only Peter Schickele/PDQ Bach concert I attended, also at CalTech. I laughed so hard!

Yup. He did Bat Out of Hell as the third song, too. Madness.

Jeez, TBH I thought he'd be dead by now from a conorary or something, he was a big bloke back in the day!
Good music though, I'll never deny him that.
I probably shouldn't say this, what with my punk reputation to keep and all, but one of the best gigs I went to, was,……………….. Status Quo at Sheffield City Hall >.>

I think they were at the same venue in Beverly Hills on Wilshire Blvd. I later saw Al Stewart at a dinner-theatre somewhere in the LA area, and decided never to go to a concert at a like venue–bad food and too much non-music noise interfering with what I really wanted to hear.
The Great American Music Hall in San Francisco–in the Tenderloin, yet–does serve hors d'oeuvres and other light fare, but only before the show and during intermission. You can go up to the bar during the performance and get a drink, but I'm not sure about food–it's been ages since I was there. Food's not bad, either. The first time I went there was for Loreena McKennitt's first SF performance–that, too, was magical. I was too shy at that point to approach her.
(Back to BH venue) With Alan Stivell, whose father taught him to play the Celtic harps he was reviving when Alan was three, there was music and singing along with songs and then doing an An Dro dance en masse throughout the auditorium, possibly the tune being Tri Martolod (Three Sailors). It was pretty heady!
June 6, 2011 at 9:18 am #12577Oh that's an easy one – last month I saw Jason Webley play at a little hole-in-the-wall place in Troy and the concert was amazing. He puts on one heck of a show. If you're not a fan when you get there you are when you leave. Awesome.
July 14, 2011 at 6:52 pm #12578Finally got to see Metallica at the Sonisphere festival last weekend. I'm still recovering from the overdose of awesomeness 😀
September 23, 2011 at 11:22 pm #12579The Oz Fest, in Israel. Ozzy and Korn and several other bands were there. It was so fun. And it was Ozzy's first time coming to Israel. He threw cups of vodka at us, for some reason.

I saw Korn a few year back. It was awesome. It was at a festival in Belgium. Tool, Metallica & Rammstein were playing the same day. That was an absolutely good day.
the first concert I ever went to was Therapy?. I was 16 and totally blown away.
We have some 2 gigantic festivals right here in Belgium and I got to see a lor of great bands/artist.
F.i. Sepultura, Bloodhound Gang, Moloko, Basement Jaxx, R.E.M., Body Count, Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk and a lot more I seem to be forgetting right now.
October 3, 2012 at 8:20 pm #12581before our beautiful daughter was born my bf and i used to see a lot of bands, my fav pics from them were black sabbath with ronnie James dio, haha corny but sabbastion bock was awesome, gnr (disappointing as of course by the time we saw them it wasnt the original line up) umm oh Zappa plays Zappa was great, megadeath, and I know how emo this is, but I've been in love with them since there erly punk days, AFI lol
January 12, 2013 at 9:23 pm #12582I'm a bit of a gig-aholic.. I started going to concerts in the very eary 90's and I love it!! I have spent a mean amount of money on tickets (£400 for 2) and I would do it again.
I recently had a dream come true after getting to see Jason Mraz at the O2 in London, I had been trying to see him for 4 years x awesome
