Well, it's most definitely the Fall here on the Oregon Coast – we must have had about 3 inches of rain in the past 2 days. I'm still holding out for a bit of sunshine before the sun goes into hibernation until next year – in the meantime, I'm curious to hear how (or even if) the changing of the seasons affects your sleep.

Do you find that your sleep changes as the seasons change? If so, how does it change? Do you have a favorite season in terms of coping with your insomnia?

Please share your thoughts and experiences below.

If you are ready to stop struggling with insomnia you can enroll in the online insomnia coaching course right now! If you would prefer ongoing phone or video coaching calls as part of a powerful three month program that will help you reclaim your life from insomnia, consider applying for the Insomnia Mastery program.

I always sleep worse in the winter months and have been diagnosed with SAD as well. Been using a lightbox for a number of years, but it only helps very little.

Right now I'm looking at things as going good because I'm getting 5 hrs on an average night, but that will drop to about 2-3 around November.

For what it is worth, I can fall asleep at the end of the day with no problem, but staying asleep is what is killing me.

The seasons don't make much difference for me. Am trying to get to natural sleep after many years of Rx meds in one form or another. Using every method that I had read about, I am still a chronic insomniac that can't get to sleep and will be 66 years old. Hope for the future on anything except meds because supplements don't work regardless of their claims.

I have been diagnosed with SAD also. My sleep only worsens if the SAD contributes to anxiety and depression. This usually hits in Nov. or Feb. I had a difficult time when living in Vancouver, as it rains the entire winter.

I think the temperatures can affect my sleep because if it is too hot or too cold sleep is harder. Most people say the seasons change sleep because of the light changes but for me I think it is more temperature.

If I'm not anxious, melatonin helps. I however, can't take more than 5 mg or it depresses me. My friend takes 10 mg., and it doesn't bother her. Melatonin is a natural hormone that is supposedly lacking when one can't sleep. You could google all the info on it. I'm presently taking mellodyn I buy on line. it's comprised of valerian, passionflower, lemon balm and only 3 mg of melatonin. I'm down to 75mg from 150 mg of the anti depressant I was put on for SAD. I feel much better but it's still creating insomnia. There's side effects on these drugs going on and coming off. I'm 67 years old, my first time ever on A.D.'s and I'm not impressed.
